Competing in the Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40,000 smartphone price range was no easy feat, but Oppo successfully managed it with the Oppo Reno 4. It launched in the middle of 2020, and it ran one of the most powerful mid-range processors of the time. It even had a sleek and slim design. Oppo has now announced the Reno 5 Pro, which is the 5th generation of the device. The new device aims to deliver flagship-like performance and offer even 5G connectivity at an affordable price.

The Oppo Reno 5 Pro among the first smartphones to run MediaTek’s MT6889Z Dimensity 1000+ CPU. The new chipset aims to make 5G smartphones affordable. It supports dual 5G SIMs, and MediaTek proprietary 5G UltraSave power-saving technology. Oppo claims the battery efficiency of the chipset is better than its rivals, as the 5G modem is integrated within the chipset. The Dimensity 1000+ CPU is based on the new 7nm fabrication process, and it comes with four high-performance cores clocked at 2.6 GHz and four efficiency cores at 2 GHz. This is enough CPU power to run most apps and games smoothly.

The Oppo Reno 5 Pro is also going to be an ideal device for playing games. It comes with the new Mali-G77 MC9 GPU capable of running high-end games such as Call of Duty: Mobile, Fortnite, Asphalt 9: Airborne and Shadowgun Legends. The device has Oppo’s Vapour Chamber Liquid Cooling system, that should keep temperatures in check while playing games. The device will be available in two variants. The entry-level model has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while the top-end one has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Both devices use UFS 2.1 storage which should offer ultra-fast data transfer speeds.

The Oppo Reno 5 Pro is designed like an expensive flagship smartphone. It uses glass, both at the front and the back, for a premium look. The rear has a matte finish that helps reduce smudges and fingerprints. Oppo also includes a clear TPU case, so your phone stays clean. The device has an aluminium chassis for durability. The removal of the sliding-camera mechanism has also made the phone lighter the previous device. It now weighs just 173 grams, and at 7.6mm thickness, it is one of the sleekest smartphones in the market today. The device has an in-display fingerprint reader for security. You can also use it to buy apps and make payments. The Reno 5 Pro is available in three colour shades – Starry Night, Aurora Blue, Moonlight Black, and Star Wish Red.

The Oppo Reno 5 Pro’s 6.5-inch screen comes with a punch-hole display design. This allows for an 88.6 per cent screen-to-body ratio making the screen nearly edgeless. The display runs a screen resolution of 2400 x 1080, and its 20:9 screen aspect ratio makes the Reno 5 Pro perfect for watching movies. The device also supports 90Hz refresh rate for stutter-free scrolling and gaming. The screen has a 180Hz touch sampling rate, so every touch gets an accurate and instant response. This feature can make a big difference when playing competitive games. Oppo claims the Reno 5 Pro’s screen produces 800 nits of brightness, with a peak brightness of 1100 nits. The display also supports the Always-on feature, letting you have a quick glimpse of notifications without having to turn on the screen.

Oppo’s Reno smartphones are known for their superior camera quality, and the Reno 5 Pro is no different. The phone has quad-cameras that includes a 64MP primary camera, 8MP secondary camera, and 2MP macro and depth cameras. Oppo says the primary camera uses Sony’s new IMX766 sensor which takes 63.8 per cent more light than the previous IMX 586 sensor. This means the camera can now deliver better low-light performance. The camera supports 4K videos recording up to 30 fps. The camera also supports OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation), and with Oppo’s Super Anti-shake mode eliminates the effects of shaky hands.

The Reno 5 Pro’s secondary camera offers 120-degree field-of-view, making landscape photography easy. The 2MP macro and depth lens are the ones seen on the Oppo Reno 4, which means you can expect the same, solid performance. The phone has a 32MP camera also has a wide field-of-view. The selfie camera can record full HD videos up to 30 fps, and it also has EIS (electronic image stabilization) that makes it ideal for vlogging.

The Oppo Reno 5 Pro ships with Android 11 OS. Its uses Oppo’s ColourOS 11 that offers tons of customisation options. The Dark Mode now has three contrast levels for providing a comfortable viewing experience both, during the day and at night. Oppo says the new OS is cleaner, and it is 32 per cent more responsive than the older ColourOS 10. Oppo has also introduced a FlexDrop feature that lets you open any app in a smaller window and use it over an existing full-screen app, or the home screen. There is also an updated Game Space mode, that optimises the CPU and RAM to improve gaming performance.

The Oppo Reno 5 Pro comes with Wi-Fi 6 for wireless internet connectivity, NFC for easy payments and Bluetooth 5.1 for connecting audio devices. The device promises a solid battery life with its 4,450mAh battery. The phone supports 65W fast charging, and it ships with Oppo’s SuperVOOC 2.0 charger. The phone also supports reverse wireless charging, a handy feature to charge wireless earbuds and other wireless charging smartphones.

The Oppo Reno 5 Pro is a top-notch, mid-range device that makes few to no compromises. Oppo hasn’t revealed the prices yet, but the device is set to launch on the 18th of January. Fret not. It will be here at www.reliancedigital.in and also, your nearest Reliance Digital store.
