Lenovo’s portfolio of tablets has expanded, and some of the newest entrants to the market are second generation products of successful products. One such, affordable and compact product is the Lenovo Tab M8 (2nd generation). The specific model of interest is the 8-inch, Tab M8 (8505X). On paper, it is priced modestly at just Rs. 12,499* but with upgraded internals, it could be the ideal entertainment tablet or one for younger users to use to attend remote classes on. With so many tablets in the market, one must wonder, what makes this Lenovo Tab M8 interesting?
Early tablets were a bulky mess, but as technologies used to build them have refined, the result is tablets like the Lenovo Tab M8 8505X. It is sleek, even for an affordable device, with a thickness of only 8.15 mm. The back is made of metal, so it brings sturdiness to the mix, but it is also rounded along the edges, so it is comfortable to hold, not to mention it looks great. The bezels are also thinner than you might expect. It is even light, weighing no more than 305g. That is only a bit heavier than a modern-day smartphone.
The display is an IPS panel, so it is bound to render saturated colours and good viewing angles. Even the size of it is such that it covers 82 per cent of the front of the tablet, making the most of the real estate. It is rather good for a modest tablet. It runs a resolution of 1280 x 800, which is ideal for a screen this size. Many of us may spend large amounts of time looking at screens, so the Tab M8 comes certified by TUV to reduce blue light that can be harmful in the long run. You can rest easy using the tablet, even if you spend hours on it. Lenovo has also ensured the audio performance is punchy too. The tablet uses a Dolby Audio tuned speaker that is great when you are gaming or watching content, or even listening to a podcast.

A tablet such as this might be used for playing games on, or for attending classes, or just relaxing on the couch watching your favourite Netflix shows and movies. The Lenovo Tab M8 comes with all the hardware needed to do these things. It’s powered by a 4-core MediaTek Helio A22 processor, clocked at about 2 GHz. This is a decent amount of power for what you need to work on. it also has 3 GB of RAM, which is enough for multitasking between applications comfortably. Most tablets in this price range tend to come with 2GB of RAM. The onboard graphics solution is an IMG PowerVR GE-class module, which is also enough to get the job done. You get 32 GB of onboard storage for installing and games. You will need more, so there is a microSD card slot that you can plug in additional storage going up to 128 GB. That is more than enough for your favourite apps, games, movies, and music.
Battery performance should not be a major issue either, considering the tablet runs a smaller screen. The battery onboard is rated for 5,100 mAh, which is respectable for an 8-inch tablet. Even a battery this sized is housed in a product that weighs so little. Lenovo claims the tablet can run 18 hours if you are browsing the web, non-stop. In real-world scenarios, it might be longer.
One of the things missing on most entry-level tablets is mobile network connectivity. Thankfully, the Tab M8 8505X, comes with 4G connectivity and you can also use it for voice calls if you liked. That is impressive for a tablet priced this low. It gives you the freedom to go anywhere you’d like, and still be connected.

There are cameras onboard, an 8MP sensor at the rear that you can use to click photos with, but more importantly a 2MP front-facing camera that can be used for video calls. It suffices for calls to work or attending classes.
All the regular features you expect are there. You get a micro USB port for charging. There is Wi-Fi, as well as GPS so you can take this tablet out, even use it as your car entertainment and direction system if you like. There is also a dedicated headphone jack. The tablet runs Android 9, which is modern enough to run the latest versions of popular apps.

While no powerhouse, this is the kind of tablet you just buy and use. It does what you need it to do.
