Making a professional-grade camera phone is no easy feat. Users want smartphones to work like DSLRs, record gimble-like stable videos, and performance with an all-day battery life. The expectations skyrocket as more people rely on smartphones for photography. Finding all these features in a phone seemed unimaginable until the Vivo X70 Pro series arrived. They house cameras co-engineered by Zeiss, and the X70 Pro Plus also has a dedicated image signal processor for photography. Here is how they bring pro photography to your hands.

You might not need a DSLR after using a Vivo X70 series phone. The Pro model comes with a 40MP primary and 12MP ultra-wide camera. There is another 12MP camera that offers up to 2X optical zoom. Vivo says these cameras deliver rich colours with natural hues. They can record detailed videos and images even in irregular light conditions. The phone also supports Vivo’s flagship camera modes like the Long Exposure mode for capturing light trails and Astro Mode for astrophotography.

It’s the Pro Plus model that brings bigger camera updates. It houses a 50MP Samsung Isocell camera whose large sensor results in a shallower depth-of-field. It claims to deliver great background blurring without even using the Portrait Mode. The secondary 48MP ultra-wide camera has Vivo’s Micro-Gimbal Stabilisation for smooth and judder-free 4K video recording. Vivo has also introduced a Horizon Line Stabilisation feature that keep videos orientation levelled, even if you rotate the phone.

The Vivo X70 Pro Plus also has two zoom-focused cameras. The 8MP camera offers 5X zoom, while the 12MP shooter has a 2X zoom. They support OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation), so you can clearly capture far-away objects with any handshake induced blur. The Pro Plus model also outstands with the V1 ISP. Vivo says the dedicated ISP significantly improves focus times of the cameras. It also works to reduce noise in real-time, so you can capture detailed low-light images.

Both phones use high-transmittance glass lenses by Zeiss. These lenses can capture sunrise, sunsets and night-time photos without lens flare. Both phones share the same 32MP wide-angle camera, capable of recording up to 4K videos at 30 fps.

The Vivo X70 Pro and Pro Plus offer cutting-edge performance. The Pro model comes with the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 CPU, while the Pro Plus model run a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor. These CPUs can smoothly handle every app you wish to run on these devices. You can also play high-end games such as Battleground’s India, Call of Duty: Mobile and Asphalt 9: Legends at the highest graphics settings. The X70 Pro Plus comes with 12GB of DDR4X RAM, while the more affordable X70 Pro lets you choose between 8GB and 12GB variants.

The Vivo X70 Pro comes with a 6.5-inch full HD display. The Plus model boasts a slightly bigger 6.7-inch screen with a QHD resolution. Both phones use OLED panels, so they render sharp and vibrant colours. These displays also support 120Hz refresh rates, making scrolling through feeds and web pages smoother. This refresh rate with a 240Hz touch sampling rate also results in a better gaming experience. Vivo says the displays support LTPO technology that dynamically shifts refresh rates depending on the content. This helps improve the battery life of the device. Both phones also support HDR10+.

Both the X70 Pro and Pro Plus are slim and lightweight. They use Gorilla Glass Victus at the front for protection against scratches. The rear uses a new Fluorite AG Glass with a matte finish. Vivo says the new glass is stronger and resistant to fingerprints. The phones also come with IP68 water and dust resistant rating, a feature that was missing in the Vivo X60 series phones. These devices also use an aluminium frame which further enhances their durability. The Pro model is available in Cosmic Black and Aurora Dawn colours, while the Pro Plus comes in Enigma Black.

The Pro model now offers a 4,400mAh battery, while the Pro Plus has a 4,500mAh one. They claim an all-day battery life under heavy usage and support for Vivo’s FlashCharge technology for quick charging times.

The Vivo X70 Pro and X70 Pro Plus support 5G connectivity. There is Wi-Fi 6 for wireless connectivity and Bluetooth 5.2 for connecting audio devices and other peripherals. These phones also come with an infrared sensor on the top. It lets you can control your TV, AC, set-top box and music system from your phone.

The Vivo X70 phones deliver a well-rounded camera setup, backed by top-notch performance, elegant yet sturdy design and an all-day battery life. These phones are a great companion for travellers, vloggers as well as pro photography users.
