The latest additions to Xiaomi’s 5G phone line-up are the Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro. We recently wrote about Xiaomi’s first 5G offering, the Mi 10, a great phone priced at Rs. 50,999*. The newly launched Xiaomi phones are both reasonably priced smartphones that look similar, but are very different from their predecessors.
The two new phones, like other Mi phones offer premium phones features, bridging the gap between mid-range and premium phones. They have large 6.6-inch (2400 x 1080) full HD+ resolution screens with ultra-smooth 144Hz refresh rates. This should enable smooth gaming and help in making scrolling through social media feeds, photos, and menus better. Xiaomi has used something called MEMC in these phones, which adds frames in between the original frames to make actions and animations, transition smoothly.
Both phones have wide edgeless displays with small cut-outs for the front cameras. The Gorilla Glass 5 covers the front and back of the phones, and the camera lenses, leaving no reason to worry about scratches and dents. There is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner below the volume rockers on the right edge of the phones. The advantage of side-mounted scanners over in-display scanners is that they are easily accessible. The Mi 10T Pro comes in three colours options – Cosmic Black, Lunar Silver, and Aurora Blue, whereas the Mi 10T comes in Cosmic Black, and Lunar Silver.
The Mi 10T and 10T Pro use dual, super-linear, stereo speakers that are symmetrically placed on the four corners. They should produce a balanced, yet loud and clear sound. This won’t need portable speakers when watching movies, gaming, and listening to music. The Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro weigh 216 and 218 grams respectively.
Both phones are powered by powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processors. It’s a 64-bit, 5G chipset which also makes it future-ready. The Mi 10T Pro comes with 8GB of RAM, and storage options include 128GB and 256GB, whereas the Mi 10T comes in two RAM variants, 6GB and 8GB along with 128GB of storage. Both phones support UFS 3.1-compatible storage, which means improved read and write speeds as well as better power efficiency. Phones can heat up when playing games or shooting videos for long periods of time, so Xiaomi has equipped these phones with LiquidCool technology, which was first used in the Poco F1. There is a dedicated heat sink around the processor that prevents the phone from over-heating.
The phones have extraordinary cameras that can capture good quality photos, even shoot 8K videos. The Mi 10T Pro comes with a whopping 108MP ultra-high-resolution camera with a 30x digital zoom, while the Mi 10T has a 64MP camera with a 10x digital zoom. The other cameras are a 13MP ultra-wide-angle and a 5MP macro unit. There is a 20MP front-facing camera, which supports full HD video recording at 30fps.
The Xiaomi Mi 10T and 10T Pro run MIUI 12, which is based on Android 10 and it brings along tons of heavy customizations with live wallpapers, new animations, gestures, and a cleaner user interface. MIUI 12 is easy to get used to and the user experience should be more fun, on these higher refresh rate screens. These phones have large screens, and Xiaomi’s MIUI 12 lets you use a paper mode for reading books and text. It lets you adjust the colour temperature, the paper colour, the texture, and the screen brightness so it’s easy on your eyes.
There are high-capacity 5,000mAh and 4,920 mAh batteries inside the Mi 10T Pro and the Mi 10T respectively. Xiaomi bundles a 33W fast charger in the box that should charge the phone completely in 59 minutes. There is no headphone jack on the new Xiaomi phones, instead, there’s a USB Type-C port, which can be used for charging and transferring data. There is Wi-Fi 6, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.1 as connectivity options.
