Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Series – Retaining the best Android tablet crown

Samsung is known for its premium Android tablets. Their last Tab S8 line-up was the choice for premium tablet users, largely due to their display, performance, and great build quality. Nearly two years after the Tab S8 launch, Samsung is placing a successor, the Tab S9. Unlike last year, where there were only two models, Samsung has introduced an all-new Plus category to make these tablets more accessible in price. The new tablets look promising and overcome many of its predecessor’s shortcomings. But does this make these Android tablets capable enough to break the well-established competition? Let’s find out.

As the name suggests, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is the biggest and slimmest of all three models. The Tab S9 Plus is a mid-sized tablet, while the standard S9 Tab is perfect for those who want a compact tablet. These tablets use aluminum frames and backs, which makes them sturdy. The rear also houses a magnetic connector for the S-Pen, which is included in all models. The front also comes with Gorilla Glass Protection, which should provide adequate protection from scratches. The IP68 water rating is also a rare feature for tablets. Now, you won’t have to worry even if you accidentally spill water or coffee on these devices. The new Tab 9 series tablets ship in two colors – Beige and Graphite.

The Ultra has a 14.6-inch display, making it one of the largest tablets you can buy today. The Plus model has a 12.4-inch display, while the standard Tab S9 has an 11-inch screen. The standard Tab model had an LCD display for years, but Samsung is changing this with the Tab S9 lineup. This time, all models use AMOLED displays with a 120Hz refresh rate. These displays support HDR 10+ and are perfect for watching content and playing games. A faster refresh rate makes taking notes with the S-Pen more fluid and realistic. They also sport an under-display fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 line-up comes with a 13 MP camera across all variants. This camera should be adequate for scanning documents and occasional photo taking. The Plus model includes an additional 8 MP ultra-wide-angle lens. For selfies, there is a 12MP f/2.4 ultra-wide lens with a 120-degree field-of-view. The Ultra model also has an additional 12 MP camera if you want to switch from wide-angle to standard FOV. These tabs can record up to 4K videos up to 60 fps.

Samsung’s Tab line-up has never made performance compromises, and the new Tab S9 line-up is no different. This new line-up comes with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which can easily handle high-end apps and games. You can even play games like Battlegrounds India, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Genshin Impact at the highest graphics settings. The standard Tab S9 has a base model with 8 GB RAM with 128 GB storage and a 12 GB variant with 256 GB of storage. The Plus and Ultra models come with 12 GB RAM, and you can choose between 256 GB or 512 GB of storage.

All models sport a microSD card slot, allowing you to expand the storage up to 1 TB. They run the latest Android 13 OS supporting OneUI 5.1. The new UI brings incremental design changes, making it look more elegant and modern. It also comes with the updated Dex Mode feature, so you can connect your tablet to an external monitor and have a desktop-like experience.

On the connectivity front, these devices come with Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. They even have the latest Bluetooth 5.3, which delivers better range and a seamless wireless audio experience. All models use quad-speakers, promising a loud and clear sound.

The Tab S9 line-up also brings major battery life improvements. Despite its slim form factor, the Ultra model packs in a large 11,200mAh capacity battery. The Galaxy S9 Plus has a slightly smaller 10,090mAh battery, while the standard models have an 8,400mAh battery packs. All models support 45W fast charging via USB-C, so full charges shouldn’t take much time.

As all models use AMOLED displays and the same CPU, choosing the right tablet narrows down to size and battery life. If you are a creator who wants a big workspace, the Tab S9 Ultra should be the best option. For users wanting a compact yet powerful tab, the standard Galaxy Tab S9 is undoubtedly the best option, but if you want the best of both worlds, the Plus model brings it all in one package.
