The tablet market in India is dominated by a couple of popular brands, and the pricing on most decent tablets is higher than one might like. Most low-priced tablets are a lot cheaper, and they come with a range of compromises including mediocre quality and outdated specs. The new Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 (2022) is a welcome change from the norm. An update has been long coming, and this is the first Tab A8 in a few years. This year’s revisions bring a lot for those looking for a good tablet. Let us see what these changes are what they mean for the consumer.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 (2022) is based on a 10.5-inch screen. That is a larger display than what we have seen on other affordable tablets. Samsung has improved on the design, so the bezel around the screen is even on all sides. This should be less distracting and more immersive whether you are playing games or watching your favourite movies and TV shows. Colour choices as far as the product go, are tasteful as well, with the Tab A8 (2022) available in Gray, Silver and Pink Gold. Despite the larger screen, it is still a light tablet weighing just 508 g, something you can carry around easily. It’s much lighter than the lightest laptops. The narrowed bezels also let it be a similar sized tablet as older models, but with a larger screen. It is even slim, measuring about 6.9 mm in thickness. This makes it ideal for those on the move, and more importantly, for students.
The 10.5-inch screen is also different from other tablets, now sporting a 16:10 aspect ratio rather than a narrower 16:9 one. The increased height is handy in games, apps, as well as while working. Applications can use up the space better, render more text, spreadsheets, and presentations. You also have to scroll a lot less with the increased height. There is also the ability to multitask like on a laptop with multiple windows on the screen at once. Sharing of content between these windows is also possible. The screen also renders 16 million colours so you can be rest assured images and videos look vibrant.
A lot of care and attention has gone into the speakers, like the screen. They are Dolby Atmos capable speakers, and there are four of them, aligned to give you the best media viewing and listening experience. You do not find this in most affordable laptops.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 (2022) is available as a few variants, but they all run the same core hardware onboard — a 2 GHz octa-core processor. The variations are in the RAM, with models with 3 GB and 4 GB to choose from. The 3 GB variant ship with 32 GB of onboard storage while the 4 GB variants come with 64 GB. Both support microSD cards up to 1 TB, so if you are someone who cares a lot about storing media locally, that is always an option. For the rest of us, 32 GB and 64 GB of a decent bit of storage to store at least, the most essential apps and games.
You can choose the new Samsung Tab A8 in either LTE models or Wi-Fi-only models. One offers you the flexibility of going anywhere and still being connected, while the Wi-Fi is suitable for those who purely use their tablets while they are at work or home. The Wi-Fi spec in place is 802.11ac, which means streaming all kinds of content of the web effortless. Bluetooth 5.0 is also available if you choose to use external peripherals, even wireless earbuds, or headphones. You still get a 3.5 mm audio jack for plugging in wired earphones though.

A tablet offers the benefit of a good battery life, compared to most laptops, and the Tab A8 does not disappoint. The tablet ships with a 7,040 mAh battery, which is ample for the specs. It even supports 15W Fast Charging, that should help boost the battery back to life when you need it. There is a rear 8 MP camera for those need to click photos of documents every now and then, and a 5 MP front-facing camera for selfies and more importantly, video calling.
Hardware is not all that Samsung is known for, the recent line of Samsung smartphones ship with some great software and the Tab A8 includes a bunch of the smart features from them. The Samsung Kids app lets parents to allot access to specific apps for younger audiences, and you can even set playtime and monitor their activities. The Screen Recorder feature is a great way to record your display, then replay it as you need it. This is great if you are watching content or trying to record tutorials, that you want to upload later to YouTube. The software on the Tab A8 is also well synchronized with other Samsung devices you may own. Depending on compatibility, you can continue using and working on the apps on the other device, without having to transfer your files over. This also works with products like the Galaxy Watch series and the Galaxy Buds earphones, where you can continue listening to music, or watching shows or movies, or even taking calls.
