Samsung has a reputation for making excellent TVs, and the newly launched Neo Q80A is their newest, top-tier 4K TV powered by the Quantum Dot technology, like their recent 8K series line-up. The TV has next-generation gaming specs and with its aggressive pricing, the TV has what is needed to be a solid competitor.

The Samsung Neo Q80A is nothing short of an art piece. Its design is perfect, whether it’s wall-mounted or kept on a table. Slimmer bezels are a style-statement, but they also blend the TV into its surroundings. Even the setup is clean, thanks to cut-outs at the back that keep wired neatly tucked. The remote is unique too, not because of all the controls it has but because it can be charged with solar energy. You can also use a Type-C USB to charge it.

The Samsung Neo Q80A has 4 HDMI ports, two USB 2.0 ports for media recording and playback. There is Wi-Fi 802.11ac for wireless connectivity and a LAN port for wired connection. There is also an optical port for connecting a soundbar or a home theatre system.

The Samsung Neo Q80A renders jaw-dropping picture quality, thanks to its Quantum Dot technology. It uses a Direct Full Array technology that works with Samsung’s Intelligent Backlight System. Samsung says this allows the TV to be brighter than traditional LCD-LED TVs. There is also support for the Samsung Quantum HDR technology, which enhances colour, brightness and contrast so movies, TV shows and games look bolder, and punchier.

The TV can produce more brightness and contrast but knowing where to apply it is important. That is where the Samsung Neo Quantum processor takes over. It upscales scenes, restoring them pixel by pixel, using up to 16 neural networks of its advanced AI. It fine-tunes brightness and adjusts contrast for a fascinating viewing experience regardless of the source resolution. The CPU is also responsible for powering the Samsung Motion Xcelerator Turbo+ feature. It works with the TV’s 120Hz refresh rate panel to offer smoother motion while watching fast-paced sports and movies. The TV’s 120Hz refresh rate screen also makes it perfect for playing 4K games with the PlayStation 5 or Xbox X series.

There is even an in-built Game Bar feature that shows the current frames per second (FPS) rate and what version of VRR is currently enabled. The GameView feature transforms the screen ratio from 16:9 to 21:9 or 32:9 for an ultra-wide monitor experience. The Q80A’s support for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro technology also ensures reduced stutter and superior gaming performance when connected to compatible hardware. The TV has an HGiG (HDR Gaming Interest Group) setting that works with your console’s HDR calibration settings for a more accurate picture with deeper blacks and more detailed highlights.

The Neo Q80A runs on Samsung’s Tizen OS. It has a clean and easy-to-use interface that makes it easy to navigate through content, features, and settings. There is Alexa, Google Assistant and Bixby support for controlling the TV using voice commands. All the streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, and Zee5 are present. You can also download more apps from the Samsung’s Tizen Store. Features such as Ambient Mode reduces power consumption and it helps the TV blend into its surrounding environment while retaining key information like the time and notifications.

The TV supports Apple AirPlay 2, so you can cast screen even from iOS devices. There is also a Multi View feature to watch content and your phone’s screen on the TV simultaneously. If you use a Samsung smartphone or smartwatch, you can sync your biometric data to the TV using the built-in Samsung Health app.

The Samsung Neo Q80A’s in-built speakers can produce up to 60W of audio output. There is also an in-built woofer for deeper bass. Features such as SpaceFit sound detect whether the TV is mounted on a wall or placed on a table. It then optimises itself to generate the best sound. The Active Voice Amplifier (AVA) feature emphasises the voice in the scenes so that the TV can deliver clear dialogues to viewers. The TV also supports Samsung’s Q-Symphony, a feature that allows the TV to sync its own speakers with a compatible Samsung soundbar for creating a multi-speaker setup.

The Samsung Neo Q80A is truly a next-generation 4K TV. It delivers top-notch picture quality with plenty of high-end features that makes it significantly better than its competition.
