Samsung redefined the way smartphones look after the Galaxy Fold in 2019. The phone looked sleek, offered flexible features and a glimpse of a futuristic device. While the Fold was great for power users, it was quite big for everyday use. The Galaxy Z Flip made foldable technology more pocketable while resurrecting the nostalgia of older flip phones. Samsung’s new Galaxy Flip 3 takes things to a whole new level. It is one of Samsung’s first waterproof foldable devices that comes with an affordable price tag, considering how extraordinary it is.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 has a 6.7-inch Infinity Flex display. It uses an additional protective film for 80 per cent more durability than the previous Flip phones. The display’s uniform design hides the folding mechanism. It uses Samsung’s new Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel which is said to render significantly better brightness, contrast and vivid colours than traditional AMOLED screens. Samsung has also bumped up the refresh rate to 120Hz, for smooth scrolling and swiping experience. A higher refresh rate screen also significantly enhances the gaming experience. Like most modern Galaxy phones, the Flip 3’s display also supports HDR10+, so you can enjoy HDR content from Netflix and other streaming platforms.

Samsung has also made improvements to the outer Cover Display. It uses larger 1.9-inch screen, a sizeable improvement over last year 1.1-inch. The bigger screen shows more notifications, and you can also click photos, play music and do more, without opening the phone. There is also a new animated clock with animals that greets you every time you tap the display. For durability, the Cover Display uses Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus. Samsung says the new glass is stronger than the older Gorilla Glass 6, and it can easily handle accidental drops.

Samsung never gave an IP rating to any of its foldables in the past. The new phone is IPX8 rated, making it sweat and water-resistant. This means you can use the Flip 3 during workouts and even hang around near a pool without worrying about water splashes. Samsung says the display hinge is also 10 per cent more durable than its predecessor.

The phone is slightly lighter than its predecessor, despite added durability and features. It has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for unlocking the device. The Z Flip 3 will be available in Cream, Green, Lavender, Phantom Black, and White colours.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 brings major performance upgrades over its predecessor. It uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, a top-end processor capable of handling any app and game you throw at it. The new CPU offers 5G capabilities and is also more power-efficient than the older models. The phone has 8GB of RAM for multitasking, and it comes with 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage. There is also a higher-end variant with 256GB of storage.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 comes with a new camera configuration. At the rear, is a pair of 12MP cameras with ultra-wide-angle support. Samsung says both cameras use new sensors, resulting in brighter and more colourful pictures. These cameras support OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) and can record up to 4K videos at 60fps. When you open up the phone, there is also a 10MP in-display camera capable of clicking wide-angle selfies and 4K 30fps videos.

The collection of camera modes makes the Galaxy Z Flip 3 special. You can partially fold the phone at a right angle and easily take clear selfies without a tripod. There is also a Quick Shot 2.0 mode for taking selfies on the smaller screen. Samsung says the new device also comes with an enhanced Night mode that combines up to 14 shots into a single photo for bright and detailed night photos. You can also record low-light timelapse videos using the Night Hyperlapse mode.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 now come with stereo speakers, a big improvement over the older Flip’s mono setup. They are tuned by AKG and support Dolby Atmos for clear sound output. The phone comes with a 3,300mAh battery and 25W fast charging support. There is also 11W fast wireless charging support along with 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 has the mettle to make foldable phones mainstream. It takes a giant leap from its predecessor by offering a more durable design, better cameras and top-end hardware. It is also way more affordable than its predecessor, which further amps up its appeal. The device is expected to be soon available for pre-order at www.reliancedigital.in and your nearest Reliance Digital store.
