Smartwatches are no longer a novelty as they once were, but a necessity. Health insights, access to your phone’s music player, being able to calls are just some of the tasks smartwatches today can achieve. Most phones under a certain price range can do that, but Samsung is one of leaders as far as premium smartwatches are concerned. They are trendsetters and if a premium smartwatch has been on your list of things to buy, now maybe a good time. Samsung has just released their new Galaxy Watch 6 series which looks like be the watch to beat in the year to come. There are two models, the Watch 6 Classic models and the Watch 6. They are now available at reliancedigital.in and your nearest Reliance Digital store. But what do the new models bring to the table? Let’s find out.

The Samsung Watch 6 has a range of improved features. Let’s start with the design and feel of this device. One of the sore points for smartwatches as they evolved over the years, were their bulky shapes and bezels. The new Watch 6 has improved on the already great models it replaces. The Watch 6 has a 20 percent larger display size, so you can see more content on it, be it be notifications or messages. It’s also 30 per cent slimmer so, when you wear your Watch 6, it feels more natural and refined like a matured wristwatch – not a heavy block of plastic and metal. The Classic model in different, with a bezel that can be rotated and used as a way to interact with the apps.

There is a quick release button under the strap now that lets you detach it from the watch. It’s so easy to change straps now you can swap them in moments. You could choose to use a specific one during a workout in the mornings, and a classy one for your evening attire. The strap release button makes a noticeable click, so you know the strap has detached cleanly from the body.

Other design elements involve the sturdiness of the watch. The screen is lined with Sapphire Crystal Glass which should help it against the wear and tear of daily life. The watch is IP68 and 5ATM compliant which means water is no problem for it. It can withstand some amount of underwater time, but you shouldn’t go scuba diving wearing it. It can easily take on the rains, sweat and showers though.

There are other sensors that make up the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6. Unlike other smartwatches that only tell you your heart rate and some other stats, the Watch 6 has something called a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) sensor, that tells you things like your body fat and skeletal muscle. These are important to your general fitness and now, the range of exercises has been updated too. The Watch 6 can record and track over 90 workouts and you can create your own custom workout too. The Watch 6 is smart enough to automatically detect the kind of activity you’re doing and start recording it. This means you won’t have to manually start recordings. While on the topic of activities, you can also set HR zones, which simply put, are heart rate zones that you’d like to work out within. The watch will notify you when you’re in the sweet spot so you can maintain your heart rate during your activity, for maximum effectiveness. Other features include fall detection that will prompt you if you need help. You can also send SOS signals to emergency services by pressing the home button five times.

If you recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, you could also use the Watch 6 to control the camera setup on the Flip 5. You can setup the Flip 5 as a stand and use the touchscreen on the Watch 6 to zoom or switch modes between photo and video recording. This is the perfect remote control for your new smartphone.

The Galaxy Watch 6  and Classic Watch 6 models are available as Bluetooth models that works alongside your smartphone, but also as LTE versions which lets you make calls or use the watch independently without any smartphone around. You can also send text messages without a smartphone, even stream music. This is truly a fully functional smart device on your wrist. In locations with Samsung Wallet support, you can use the Watch 6 to make payments without using your phone or any pesky cards.

The LTE version isn’t the only variant, there are also a range of dial sizes to choose from. The Classic Watch 6 models are available in 43 and 47mm sizes, while the Watch 6 models are slightly smaller with 40 and 44 mm sizes. There are also colours to suit your style, not forgetting that the Wear OS software itself has a ton of customizability. The Black and Graphite colours are among the sober ones if that’s your flow, but you can also choose from Silver and Gold if you want something a bit glamorous.

There are other improvements to the watch, specifically to the performance. Samsung claims the Watch 6 is up to 18 per cent faster than the older model. This should help with the overall responsiveness across apps and the various gestures you might use on it. Performance isn’t just in the speed but also how long the watch lasts on a single charge. The Samsung Watch 6 series should run about 40 hours at a time. There is also a fast charge feature much like smartphones, where the Watch 6 can reach 45 per cent charge in just 30 minutes.
