The other best way of watching 4K videos on your TV is to stream them online. Earlier this year YouTube took the plunge to 4K. All thanks to their new compression technology called VB9, it has now become possible to stream 4K Youtube videos. This is probably the best thing to happen to 4K TV owners. With the growing popularity of 4K, there are more and more number of channels on YouTube today that upload videos in 4K resolution. The vast variety of videos to choose from includes movie trailers, music videos, game videos and the list just goes on. Even some of the major TV manufacturers have a dedicated 4K channel, where you can find interesting 4K videos to watch. Besides YouTube, you can also find stream a whole bunch of 4K videos on Vimeo as well.

Streaming 4K videos though requires a fast internet connection. If you’re faced with a scenario where the TV doesn’t support a particular format, you can always connect your laptop or PC to your TV and play videos off it.

Using your 4K TV as a monitor

Connecting your 4K TV to your laptop or PC and using it as a monitor opens up a whole world of possibilities. This is where you can actually use four times the resolution of a full HD. Having that kind of resolution allows you to sit much closer to the screen compared to a full HD TV and still get a good, sharp picture. This means that you can actually use your 4K TV as a big screen monitor for your PC. All you have to do is connect your laptop or PC to the TV with the help of an HDMI 1.4 or HDMI 2.0 cable and change the resolution settings on the laptop to 4K (3840 x 2160). For this though, you need a laptop or PC that supports 4K resolution. Most recently launched laptops support them especially if they have a dedicated graphics solution onboard.

Once you change the resolution on the laptop, you get a desktop that is four times larger than a desktop running a resolution of 1920 x 1080. This means you have four times the space to work with. You can actually use your 4K TV as a big screen monitor like the ones we see in Si-Fi movies. It will let you open multiple windows at the same time and still deliver a sharp picture quality. You can be watching a game of DOTA, while reading an article online and video chatting with a friend all at the same time. There are also software that you can download that let you manage multiple windows on the screen by creating grid lines. We tried one of the software called Winsplit Revolution on a 40-inch 4K TV and were just amazed by the number of things you can do with it.
 
 
 
 There are other window managing software you can try as well. Some such as Winsplit revolution give you the option to customize and choose the number of windows you want on the screen, their sizes and placements. But the number of windows you can open and still expect to get a seamless performance depends on the laptop and its graphics solution. You can have multiple browser windows open at the same time, and a mid-range laptop with an entry-level dedicated graphic card can handle it, but if you want to run heavy applications like HD games and full HD videos simultaneously, then we recommend using a PC or laptop with a powerful graphics card for that.
 
 
This brings us to the gaming part of it. Games are getting better day by the day and a 4K should be on the wish list of any hardcore gamer. There are dedicated graphic cards today, from NVIDIA and AMD that are specifically designed for 4K gaming. There are plenty of game titles as well which support 4K resolutions, so make sure you check them out.

So, why are 4K TVs a good buy today?

There are plenty other reasons why 4K TVs make a good buy today. Granted 4K isn’t mainstream yet, but looking at the rapid speed that technology is moving at, the wait shouldn’t be long. To think about it, it has only been a year since 4K TVs entered the market and today they are almost everywhere. Buying a 4K today means also future proofing your entertainment system. It’s clearly a better idea to go in for a 4K TV today, than to go for a full HD one. In this case, you don’t need to spend a huge amount of money again in a year or two just to upgrade to a 4K TV.
