The smartphone industry has seen considerable change over the years, but it also has been affected by quickly evolving technologies. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one such major contributor. Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones are at the pinnacle of Android smartphones, and it’s time for this year’s introduction. The Samsung Galaxy S24 series is here, and it’s well peppered with gracious amounts of AI. The race for smartphone market dominance has typically revolved around hardware specifications, but many a times, brands have proven it’s what you can do with the hardware that matters. This year’s example are these new Galaxy S24 models.

Like each year, there are a few variants of the Galaxy S24 to choose from – the S24, S24+ and the S24 Ultra, in order of their increasing screen sizes and feature packages. The S24 is the smallest and most affordable with a 6.2-inch display, the S24+ and S24 Ultra have 6.7 and 6.8-inch displays respectively. The S24+ and S24 Ultra screens run identical resolutions, of 3120 x 1440, while the S24 runs 2340 x 1080. All devices have screens running refresh rates of 120 Hz, complemented by peak brightness ranges up to 2600 nits. Regardless of the device you choose, a whole new level of visual experience awaits you.

Samsung is offering some of the widest range of colours and finishes seen on any modern smartphone. The S24 and S24 Ultra, have about 6 colour options to choose from. The S24 and S24+ for example are available in an Onyx Black to a brighter Sapphire Blue and Cobalt Violet, to name a few. These options may depend on the region in which these models will be available in.

Colours aren’t the only differentiator between models; the S24 Ultra devices come in a titanium shell now. This gives it a lot of robustness that’s seen on few smartphones. This also means you won’t have to hide the smartphone with bulky covers and cases. The S24 Ultra’s screen also has an additional level of security in the form of Corning Gorilla Armor. The other models use Armor Aluminium Frames and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection for the screen. All devices are IP68 compliant, so you need not worry much about water and dust damage – just don’t go deep water diving with the phones.

The star feature of the phones is the Galaxy AI, a feature that works alongside the hardware to create unbelievable results especially in the realms of photography and audio. Searching the web hasn’t been easier. You can say goodbye to complex search queries in your favourite search engine. Now, simply look at any photograph or a screen capture, circle it and Galaxy AI will get you more information on it. Samsung calls this feature, what it’s meant to do – Circle to Search. Other interesting features include Live Translate that let you have conversations in different languages, and this works even over phone calls. Imagine using this feature to make reservations and plans across countries, in languages locally spoken. Other AI-powered features let you summarize large chunks of text into meaningful, concise messages.

For all this magic to happen, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor, an 8-core monster. The S24+ and S24 run just as powerful Exynos 2400 for Galaxy processors, that run 10 cores. The processors are coupled with 12GB of RAM, in the case of the Galaxy S24+ and S24 Ultra. The entry-class S24 models run on 8GB of RAM. Performance on smartphones comes at a cost typically, heating. Thankfully, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series use a Vapor Chamber, which keeps the device cool, even under the heaviest of workloads.

Storage options in the models give the S24 Ultra up to 1TB of storage, and the lowest capacity starts at 256GB. The S24 is available in 128, 256 and 512GB variants, while the S24+ is only available in 256 and 512GB capacities.

There are changes on the camera front with the new Galaxy S24 series. The Ultra model has the absolute top-notch camera features. The biggest one is being able to zoom up to 10x while the other models can still shoot at 3x. The Ultra offers just that extra bit of flexibility, especially when you are outdoors, clicking distant objects. The sensor on the Ultra model captures images at 200MP, while the others shoot 50MP photos. The superior zooming capability comes thanks to the 50MP telephoto camera sensor on the S24 Ultra, compared to the 10MP ones on the other devices. While they may appear to dwarf the S24 Ultra’s capabilities, the S24+ and S24 are both extraordinary devices. They are far ahead of majority of smartphones in the market. All three devices use 12MP sensors for the front-facing camera. What’s impressive is that the Super HDR feature lets you preview what the resulting photograph will look like even when you’re about to click the photo. The editor has AI features that let you move objects and clean up the image with a few swipes on the screen. We’re only scratching the surface as far as the capabilities go.

All these new-age features also have high demands on the battery. Keeping that in mind, Samsung has put a 5,000 mAh battery on the S24 Ultra and 4,900 mAh on the S24+. The S24 uses a smaller 4,000 mAh battery. This should allow you to play videos for about 30 hours on a single charge, and 95 hours of audio playback for the S24 Ultra. The S24+ and S24 are a little lower in comparison, but still very impressive in the grand scale of the smartphone market.

The S Pen was a feature prominent on the Galaxy Note series, and the S24 Ultra still carries it. This means all the AI features that we spoke about earlier come to life, with the S Pen.
