Vivo Y22 – Making a huge leap ahead

The days of spending an absurd amount for a good phone are long gone. Today, even Rs. 20,000 can fetch a range of smartphone. However, one must be wary of phones running older-generation processors, with compromised performance. Some even compromise on build quality, making these devices less than ideal if you are planning to use this new phone for the long term. The newly launched Vivo Y22 is different, shipping with the best-in-class mid-range processor, also taking design inspiration from the expensive Vivo devices.

Most mid-range phones are bulky and often come with many loose ends. The Y22 is built far from a mid-range phone. It looks like a flagship from every angle, looking more like the expensive Vivo Y25. It has the same rounded curved edges, a strong frame for a comfortable grip. It is about 8.9 mm thin and weighs only 190g. Vivo has equipped it with a side-facing fingerprint sensor that makes unlocking the device comfortable and easy. The device also supports the Wake Face feature allowing you to unlock the device with a glance.

The Vivo Y22 is available in two shades – the Metaverse Green with its abstract-designed rear panel and metallic shine. The Starlight Blue variant is said to be inspired by stars and the universe. Vivo says this variant has a smooth texture which makes it resistant to fingerprints. While being stylish, this phone is durable too. It comes with IP4X dust-resistance and IP5X water-resistance ratings, which means you don’t have to worry while using the phone in rainy and dusty environments. Apart from this, the device also ships with a clear case, so you can flaunt its premium design with an added layer of durability.

The phone’s premium design is complemented by its large 6.5-inch HD+ display. Having a large and high-resolution screen means you don’t have to squint while reading texts, documents and scrolling through web articles. The screen is also perfect for platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Vivo claims the phone’s IPS LCD panel delivers vivid colours and a super clear content viewing experience.

The screen produces up to 530 nits of peak brightness. This means you can comfortably watch content and read texts under the sunlight. Vivo has also included an Eye Protection Mode on this phone to protect your eyes from the harmful effects of blue light.

The Vivo Y22 also offers a strong mid-range performance. It equips the MediaTek Helio G85 CPU that powered many upper mid-range devices. This phone can run everyday social media apps, browsers and games without many hiccups. It comes with Vivo’s Multi-Turbo 5.5 feature that claims to distribute computing power and reduce lagging issues. This means you can have a consistent gaming performance.

The device comes in two configurations. The base model comes with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. The top-end variant has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Both models come with a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion. The phone is a dual SIM LTE device supporting Wi-Fi 802.11 ac. There is also Bluetooth 5.0 on board with A2DP support, so you can have a lossless wireless music listening experience.

The phone’s powerful hardware is paired with a massive 5,000 mAh battery. It works alongside the Vivo Energy Guardian feature that optimises the phone’s power consumption to deliver an extended battery performance. The Y22 also ships with an 18 W fast charger, so you can quickly charge the device. The device runs on Android 12 and uses Vivo’s FunTouch OS 12. The updated OS is said to be lighter on the phone, so you get a smooth and fluid UI experience. Vivo has also introduced Nano Widgets, so you can quickly control apps without utilising much screen space.

The phone also takes its cameras from the more expensive Vivo V25. It uses a 50 MP primary camera offering an f/1.8 aperture. The camera supports Vivo Super Night Mode which allows users to click detailed photos at night. The phone uses AI for noise reduction and it combines multiple frames into one for clear low-light shots. Vivo has also included a Multi-Style Portrait mode feature for experimenting with portrait shots. The phone also comes with a 2 MP macro camera that lets you focus on objects from as close as 4 cm. For selfies, the phone sports an 8 MP front-facing camera. Both the front and rear cameras record full HD videos at 30 fps.

The Vivo Y22 is a stylish mid-range phone without any performance compromises. It has the best-in-class CPU that ensures smooth and fluid performance. Its large and vivid screen also makes it a perfect content binging device, for browsing, chatting and using the social media. The Vivo Y22’s base variant starts at Rs. 14,499* while the top model is priced at Rs. 16,499*.
