Samsung Galaxy Fold: Unfold the future of smartphones

While we were checking phones with curvy designs, notches and pop-up cameras, Samsung was busy designing an extra-ordinary phone. Their hard work paid off and the Galaxy Fold has finally arrived. The Fold is not just a premium phone, it is a game changer. The Galaxy Fold is for those looking for a unique design and the latest innovations. It was meant to be the first foldable phone in the smartphone industry. Unfortunately, the Fold wasn’t entirely ready to impress. With some design tweaks and refinements, the Galaxy Fold is here to unveil the future of smartphones. For all practical purposes, this is India’s first foldable smartphone.

The future of bigger, foldable screens

Smartphones these days should be called ‘phablets’ again since so many of them have screens larger than 6 inches. The Galaxy Fold is proof that phones can have larger screens without compromising on compactness. It comes with an all-new foldable screen, Samsung calls Infinity Flex Display. The phone opens like a book, smoothly and naturally. Samsung has engineered it with a hinge that has multiple interlocking gears enclosed under the screen, so it feels seamless. The phone weighs 276 grams, which feels balanced and not as heavy as two phones. When folded, the 4.6-inch Super AMOLED screen on the cover of the Galaxy Fold lets you peek at notifications, quick settings and more. When unfolded, it unveils a massive 7.3-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen supporting HDR10+. It lets you do some fascinating stuff and watch realistic content in life-like colours along with balanced contrast and brightness. You can now watch movies and TV shows, multitask between apps, play games, edit photos and respond to mails on this massive screen. The foldable screen even syncs your work to the outer screen using a feature called App Continuity. It truly transforms the way we use phones productively.

The future is multiple-cameras

Phones with single camera lenses are long gone. Most phones these days are equipped with dual, triple and even quad cameras. Looking at the trend of multiple cameras, Samsung took it as an opportunity and added six camera lenses on the Galaxy Fold. The six camera lenses – one at the front cover, two inside and three on the back, should capture really impressive photos and videos. Just above the cover display is a single 10MP lens camera for clicking selfies. When unfolded, the phone has a 10MP Selfie + 8MP RGB Depth camera for clicking beautiful selfies and portraits. On the back of the Fold is a triple-camera setup. The 16MP ultra-wide and the 12MP wide-angle cameras should offer a greater perspective with 123 and 77 degrees of field of view, respectively. In addition to this, you can easily broaden or narrow your focus with the 12MP telephoto lens on the Galaxy Fold.

The future is faster

Looking into the hardware space, the Galaxy Fold is equipped with an octa-core processor. This is plenty of processing power to handle everything from UI to apps running on multiple screens of the Fold. In addition, 12GB of RAM makes more sense on the Galaxy Fold, since the bigger screen will be used to run multiple apps, to switch between them and to multi-task in real-time. The Galaxy Fold will surely outpace the performance of current phones with the latest hardware. While there will be a lot of happening on a large 7.3-inch screen, there’s no need to worry about running out of storage either. The Galaxy Fold comes with 512GB of built-in storage. This is plenty of space to store apps, photos, videos, movies and songs.

The future is unstoppable

The flexible display is a surprise, and there is another inside the foldable phone. The Samsung Galaxy Fold comes with two batteries, each with a capacity rated at 4380 mAh. Samsung have specially designed it to keep you going without worrying about charging the phone all the time. The Galaxy Fold is capable of wireless charging and it can even charge other Qi-compatible devices using the Wireless PowerShare feature. It turns the back of the Galaxy Fold into a charging pad. This helps charge other compatible devices such as phones, smartwatches and wireless earphones without using multiple chargers and cables.

The Galaxy Fold is truly like no other. Samsung has designed it keeping in mind that people want truly innovative, next-generation smartphones. The Fold is a luxury phone crafted with intelligence, redefining and pushing the limits of what wasn’t possible on standard smartphones.
