The most powerful Galaxy Note device ever, just got showcased! That’s what Samsung does, and most of us take note of it. Samsung officially announced its new Galaxy Note 9 device on Thursday. It comes with a bunch of upgrades, making it more powerful than its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 8. The Note 9 is now, bigger, colourful and packs in more power than ever before.

The recently launched Galaxy S9 offers almost the exact specification, but has been in the market for a while. But can a single S Pen make the Galaxy Note 9 stand out from its sibling? Well, it seems like Samsung has done some major software upgrades, which makes the Note 9 even more productive than its predecessor. The new S Pen offers a bunch of customizable functionalities.

Here are the things you should know about the Galaxy Note 9, before it launches at stores near you.

Display and design

Before every Galaxy Note launch, tech enthusiasts would presume this Note to have a bigger screen than the outgoing model. Technically it does, at 6.4 inches, it is just 0.1 of an inch larger than the Note 8’s 6.3nch display. The display comes with a Super AMOLED panel, which is Samsung’s pioneered technology. The screen comes with a resolution of 1140 x 2690 with a pixel density of 516 ppi.

The Galaxy Note 9 comes with IP68 ratings, which means it can withstand some water and dust. And with the unibody glass and metal frame, the Note 9 weights 201g, which is just a tiny bit heavier than the Note 8. The fingerprint scanner is still placed below the camera at the back, which people with small hands, might find difficult to use.

Storage

The top spec version of the Galaxy Note 9 comes with 512 GB of storage along with 8 GB of RAM. Well, if you still feel that’s not enough space for you, it also comes with microSD card support that allows storage expansion up to 512GB. That will make it a terabyte of storage in your pockets, if you choose the highest capacity variant. The entry-level model will available with 128 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has a 12 MP dual-aperture camera, which switches its aperture between f/1.4 to f/2.5, considering the light conditions. The rear camera come with 2X optical zoom which offers crisp telephoto snapshots. Both the lenses comes with optical image stabilizers to eliminate the effects of shaky hands. Exclusive to the Galaxy Note 9, is the new scene optimiser mode, which tracks subjects you are pointing the camera at, using Artificial Intelligence. It automatically adjusts the brightness, contrast, saturation and white balance even before you click the picture. The front-facing camera on the Note 9 is an 8 MP shooter with autofocus, the first ever on a Galaxy Note.

Battery

Under the hood, the Galaxy Note 9 packs in a massive 4,000 mAh battery, larger than any other Note device. In 2016, the Note 7 battery explosion issue damaged Samsung’s brand image. Samsung has made sure that every battery on the Note 9 device gets certified, with their own multi-point battery check-up test. So yes, if are planning on any explosive jokes, you are going to be disappointed.

Samsung has also showcased a dual wireless fast charger which can charge both, the Note and the Galaxy Watch device simultaneously. This Galaxy Watch was also announced at the event.

Processor

The Galaxy Note S9 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor. Samsung said it comes with more optimised GPU which can easily handle graphic-intensive content. Samsung also claims, the new water-carbon cooling system inside the new Note 9 ensures long gaming hours without any performance drop. However, Samsung did not explain the system in detail, so we’ll only know once the phone is out.

S Pen

The most unique feature which makes the Galaxy Note 9 exclusive, among its competition is the S Pen. It comes with the same styling as before, but this time Samsung have managed to fit in a low energy level Bluetooth antenna, which can perform various functions from up to 30 feet. This S pen helps you to control the camera on the phone, so taking those wide, group selfies become easier. Also, it lets you to control music and presentations on your phone remotely. Samsung offers a bunch of customizable features for various apps, which will make this new S Pen more exciting.

Although Samsung offers the top-of-the-line specs on the Galaxy Note 9, a detailed review of the phone will tell us whether it justifies its high price tag.
