One of Samsung’s recent additions to their A-series smartphones is the A03s. It’s an unconventional naming convention for this device, but it has a lot going for it. For one, it’s a Samsung device and everyone knows just how reputed the brand has been with making some of the best Android smartphones. A lot of the features and enhancements seen in the latest flagship devices trickle down to lower priced phone, and the Samsung Galaxy A03s is no exception. If you have been scanning the market for an upgrade, this is a device you ought to consider.
The Samsung Galaxy A03s is a stylish smartphone, that is available in a few variations. You can choose between blue, white and black colours. They are modest looking colours and they are suitable for all kinds of users. The other variations you can choose from are the memory options, 3 GB and 4 GB. There is only a Rs. 1,000* difference between them and in addition, you also get more storage, with the 4GB variant. The 3GB models ship with 32GB of onboard storage, and the 4 GB model, with 64 GB. The 64 GB model should be your preferred choice for obvious reasons, but regardless, you can upgrade the storage of both models to a mind-boggling 1TB with the help of a microSD card. That is the kind of storage you typically see in laptops, and you can imagine the amount of content you can store on it. Back to the design, the shape of the A03s is curved so it’s comfortable to hold in your hand or pull out of your pocket. It’s light too, weighing about 196 g.

Design and models aside, the performance is very important to anyone buying a new phone. Running applications of all kinds should be a breeze on this Galaxy A03s, since it’s powered by an octa-core processor, made up of two units, one running at 2.3GHz and the other at 1.8GHz. On paper, it has enough performance to run apps of all kinds. It means you could use the phone easily for chatting, watching movies and TV shows, even playing some casual games from time to time.
The display is ample, scaling a good 6.5 inches, running a HD+ resolution. You won’t need to squint looking down at fine text. The display is dense enough, to render great detail, have decent sized fonts and it’s perfect for gaming too. That screen size especially is good fun if you like binging on our favourite movies and TV shows, lazying on the couch or in bed. Instagram and other feeds also stand out on a display this large.
There are also three rear-facing cameras that work together to create some great results, in casual photos you might take from time to time. The primary camera uses a 13 MP sensor, for clicking detail, whether you’re clicking shots of landscapes, portraits of people. In addition, there is a 2 MP macro camera that lets you get close to objects. This might be used if you like clicking close-ups of tiny insects or objects, or just to capture intricate detail. The last of the rear cameras is a depth sensor camera that is useful with depth-of-field shots where the subject stays in focus and the background gradually blurs out. There is a dedicated Portrait mode that uses the depth camera to produce some magnificent results. There is also a dedicated flash for lightening up the scene if you are shooting under low light conditions. The front-facing camera is just as good, with a 5 MP sensor working behind the scenes. It’s the kind that is most useful for clicking selfies and for video calls. This camera too has a bokeh effect mode to contrast the subject from the background.
The Samsung Galaxy A03s feeds off a 5,000 mAh battery which is larger than seen in most phones. It should get you through a day or more with decent usage. Security is another concern these days, and despite being an affordable device, it ships with a fingerprint scanner built right into the power button. It’s convenient and it helps unlock the phone in a jiffy. A 3.5mm audio jack is present too so you can plug in your favorite earphones to the device. A modern Type-C USB Port is also available, at a time where most devices, tablets, smartphones and even laptops ship with them. Charging and transferring data becomes that much simpler.
The Samsung Galaxy A03s ships with Android 11, running Samsung’s One UI, which is a big move up from older versions. There is practically no bloat, and it ships with the official set of Android apps. There are no reasons to dislike the Samsung Galaxy A03s. It’s affordable, it gets the job done, and it comes from a brand that knows how to make good phones.
