The OnePlus 9RT was recently announced in India, with a lot of hype around it. OnePlus has a tradition of launching flagship killers, but as years have gone by, prices for their device seem like they have increased. While still more affordable than most mainstream flagship devices, people have demanded something a little more affordable, but with the same performance as the more expensive alternatives. Enter, the OnePlus 9RT, a solution to all those who are looking for a no-nonsense, performance smartphone with a ton of smart features and an undeniably impressive quick charging feature.

As with any performance-oriented smartphone in 2022, the OnePlus 9RT 5G ships with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor. It is in fact, one of the fastest processors on Android devices today. On paper, it is an octa-core processor with clock speeds of up to 3 GHz. This is also a 5G-enabled device, powered by a Snapdragon X60 modem. Graphics is handled by the Adreno 660. All of it is held together with 8 GB of RAM, and a higher end model that comes 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM. The lower memory variant ships with 128 GB of storage, while the 12 GB one, with 256GB. What this means for anyone using the latest apps and games is unrivaled performance. The storage is ample too, while multitasking and jumping between apps, games and video calls is effortless. All that performance is kept in check by a VC liquid cooling solution that keeps temperatures under control, no matter what you are doing on the phone and for how long. You get all of this for a rather decent price tag now. There is a much larger heat dissipation area compared to the older devices. Performance shows up in other areas too, such as the responsiveness to inputs. The display along with the other components enables a 600 Hz touch response which is faster than most other phones. This is great if you’re a gamer and care about lightning-fast responses in competitive games.
Next in line is the OLED screen, which spans 6.62 inches running an FHD+ (1080 x 2400) resolution. This translates to 397 ppi if you are interested in pixel density, and it is right up there with the best devices. It is even more impressive that it supports HDR10+, just what you need for playing HDR content off our favorite media streaming services. What’s more, it runs a refresh rate of 120 Hz, which means a few things. Scrolling, whether it is apps, web pages, chat, or news feeds, is smooth, like butter. This means, since you have all that performance onboard, when you play games at those high frame rates, the sensation and experience is something else. OnePlus has made tweaks to the screen, so it is easier on the eyes. The E4 display is said to reduce blue light emission and it even consumer less power. It is rated for 1300 nits which is bright and handy when you are using the device outdoors. The screen is also clear of distractions, hiding a fingerprint scanner under it, and a punch hole 16MP front-facing camera on the left top.
The rear camera setup on the OnePlus 9RT is nothing short of impressive. It is powered by a IMX766 image sensor, that OnePlus co-developed with Sony. It has optical image stabilization, so it ensures your shots are detailed and crisp. The rear 50 MP primary camera is the one you are likely to use the most. There is also a 16 MP ultra-wide-angle module that could be used for shooting landscapes, cramped spaces, even group photos. The last of the cameras is a macro lens. There is also a dual LED flash that can illuminate scenes with low light. The auto-focus feature is powered by AI so it can figure the most complex of scenes without you having to fumble. All the smart gadgetry lets you shoot great photos, but also great videos. The OnePlus 9RT can shoot 4K videos at up to 60 fps, even 1080p content at 240 fps, and 720p at 480 fps. This lets you slow down footage by a lot, letting you experiment with your creativity. This could be a great vlogger’s smartphone too.
There are a few similarities in terms of design, with older OnePlus devices. The phones come in interesting colours — Hacker Black and Nano Silver. They are minimalistic in design, void of any kind of distractions and striking designs. The camera setup is tasteful and the bump, minimal. The OnePlus 9RT is one of the nicest looking smartphones in the market today.
The battery performance of OnePlus devices is what got it into the limelight, specifically the charging speeds. The new OnePlus 9RT has something called Warp Charge 65T,which takes the device charge from 0 to 100 per cent in just 29 minutes. That is the time needed for you to get ready for work or freshen up when you are back. That charge lasts a long time, and it is all thanks to the device’s 4500 mAh battery. OnePlus says there are 12 sensors onboard that even monitor the thermals for the battery, so the fast charging happens effectively, and safely.
Some of the other regular but updated features include Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), and OnePlus is confident of its three antennas that should offer better range and performance. Bluetooth 5.2 also makes an appearance for higher performance and battery efficiency. NFC is present too, and it can be handy while pairing with NFC-enabled devices as well as for payments. OnePlus is also especially proud of things that other vendors may not look at closely, like the 4D haptic motor, that the 9RT uses. All of these should bring quality of life improvements that you do not find on most other phones. All of it comes together with the software – OxygenOS 11.

OnePlus did not only launch their new smartphone, but also a pair of their latest earphones, called the OnePlus Buds Z2.
