Specialized tasks such as product designing, 3D modelling, image, and video editing require powerful hardware. Most users choose gaming laptops for these tasks, but gaming laptops are often expensive, neither are they portable. The new HP Firefly G7 ZBook line of laptops aim to solve this. These are HP’s ultraportable workstation laptops that promise to get the job done for a lot less money. They come with Intel’s most powerful offerings, and they also house a graphics solution that is ideal for creative work. Here is everything you need to know about them.

The HP Firefly G7 laptops are designed to offer performance in a thin and light form factor. The entry-level models house the Intel Core i5-10210U processor while the mid-range and high-tier variants sport the Intel Core i5-10510U chipset. HP says these processors deliver strong performance along with future-ready features such as Wi-Fi 6 and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. The Firefly G7 laptops sport the NVIDIA Quadro P520 GPU to deliver strong graphics performance. The GPU is specifically designed to handle software such as Autodesk AutoCAD, SketchUp, alongside photo and video editing tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects. The graphics solution is also ideal for running game designing tools such as Unity and Unreal Engine.

The NVIDIA Quadro P520 GPU isn’t meant for gaming, but it can still handle older gaming titles such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, and Rocket League. The entry and mid-range models of the HP Firefly G7 laptops sport 16GB of RAM while the high-end models come with 32GB of RAM. If you work on 3D models with high polygon counts, more RAM makes things smoother. All the variants of the HP Firefly G7 laptops come with 1TB of M.2 NVMe SSD drive, and they also sport an additional slot for storage expansion.

HP has managed to make room for plenty of ports despite the Firefly G7’s slim and light design. The laptops come with two USB 3.1 ports for quick data transfer, and they also house two USB Type-C ports for connecting up to two 4K monitors. You can also use these ports to charge devices. The devices also have an HDMI input, and a smart card reader to simplify logins and prevent unauthorized access to data. The HP Firefly G7 laptops wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and even NFC on the higher-end variants.

The HP Firefly G7 line-up comes with a 14-inch full HD display offering a 16:9 screen aspect ratio. The display uses an IPS LED panel to render accurate colours. HP says the display is calibrated to render accurate colours, making the laptop an ideal choice for design, content creation, and every other task that needs accurate colour representation. The display comes with remarkably thin borders, that give the laptops a modern and premium look. The screen comes with an anti-glare coating to reduce reflections, and the display produces up to 550 nits of peak brightness.

The HP Firefly G7 lineup aims to be one of the lightest and slimmest workstation laptops. They are 17.9mm in thickness, and they weigh around 1.4 kg. The devices use an all-aluminum MIL-STD certified chassis which makes them resistant to accidental bumps. They come is a Turbo Silver colour along with a distinctive Z logo in the center of the lid. HP says, the display lid is neatly balanced, allowing you to open it using just a finger. The laptop’s display lid houses a 720p HD camera along with HP’s privacy shutter.

The HP Firefly G7 laptops come with a full-size backlit keyboard. The keys are well-spaced for comfortable typing, and they use HP’s DuraKeys which promises more durability than regular keys. The keyboard is also spill-resistant which mean it can also handle accidental coffee spills. HP has also included a Programmable Key app, that allows you to assign macros to certain keys, which means you can launch programs with a simple keystroke. The keyboard bay also houses a dedicated fingerprint reader for unlocking the device.

The laptop’s trackpad is made of glass, and its large design ensures easy gestures and scrolling through spreadsheets. It has dedicated keys for tactile feedback and convenient browsing experience. The laptops also come with a keyboard-mounted pointing stick that comes handy to steer the cursor.

The Firefly G7 laptops also sports a pair of Bang & Olufsen speakers. HP says these speakers deliver loud and clear audio which enhances the entertainment experience. The devices house a 53Wh Li-ion polymer that promises up to 16 hours of battery life on a single charge. HP also bundles a 65W fast charging adaptor that should significantly reduce the charging time.

The HP Firefly G7 line-up’s CPU and GPU make them more capable than traditional laptops in its price range, especially for those who are looking for pure productivity performance.
