GoPro Hero 10 Black – The most polished Hero camera

The search for the ultimate action camera ends with a GoPro. The last major update was nearly 4 years ago with the GoPro Hero 6. It used GoPro’s self-developed GP1 processor that made its way even to the last year’s Hero 9. The dated processor showed its age, as it struggled to run newer features and high-end shooting modes smoothly. Luckily, a lot of this changes with the new GoPro Hero 10, that runs an all-new GP2 processor. GoPro says the new CPU unlocks new features such as 5K video recording and HyperSmooth 4.0. It claims to be the most polished action camera GoPro has ever made. Here is what we know about it.

The Hero 10’s GP2 processor lets you record videos up to 5K 60 fps. The camera captures 23MP photos in JPEG or RAW, a major upgrade over the Hero 9’s 19.3MP photos. The CPU also supports the Local Tone Mapping feature, an HDR processing technique that significantly improves dynamic range in photos and videos. One of the most appealing improvements with the GP2 is the new HyperSmooth 4.0. It allows users to record stable videos, even at 5K resolutions. Stabilisation is now also available when you are live streaming, a feature missing on the older camera.

The Horizon Levelling feature also gets an upgrade, increasing the tilt limit from 27-degrees to 45-degrees. It lets you record smooth footage that won’t give viewers motion sickness. The camera also comes with improved slow-motion video capturing abilities. It can now record 4K videos at 120fps and 2K videos at 240fps. It’s a great feature, especially when you are shooting creative, cinematic shots.

GoPro says the new CPU also improves the camera’s indoor photos and video recording capabilities. The faster performance also makes the UI smoother. The front screen does not stutter as much. The GoPro Hero 10 Black also has all the shooting modes we saw on the Hero 9 Black. These include TimeWarp 3.0 for stabilised time-lapse videos and Power Tools, which lets you schedule recording times.

The GoPro Hero 10 Black looks a lot like its predecessor but is nearly 5 grams lighter. The camera has Blue Hero 10 logos on it that distinguish it from the older model. GoPro has made some nice tweaks, and one of the biggest ones is the new lens cover. It now comes with a water-repelling hydrophobic coating that is significantly better at repelling water. It leaves no droplets on the lens, allowing you to record clear videos on rainy days. GoPro says this lens cover is scratch-resistant, so it can survive even extreme sports. This lens cover is also removable and replaceable, so you can even add an ND (Neutral Density) filter.

GoPro says the new Hero 10 is the toughest action camera it has ever made. It can be submerged in up to 33meter of water. Like the previous GoPro models, the Hero 10 has the Folding Fingers mechanism in its base, so you can directly mount the camera to accessories. The Hero 10 is also compatible with GoPro’s Max Lens Mod, Media Mod, Light Mod and Display Mod that were introduced last year.

The GoPro Hero 10 Black comes with a 2.7-inch rear touchscreen display. GoPro says the display offers improved touch sensitivity, thanks to the camera’s new GP2 CPU. The bigger display area enables easy navigation through features and camera modes. The front 1.4-inch LCD screen shows a live preview, which is quite handy for vloggers.

Users that buy the GoPro Subscription can upload footage to the cloud. It gives you unlimited cloud backup with the option to edit and share the footage with ease. Users can playback, edit and share their GoPro footage on the go using the GoPro Quik app. You can also connect the Hero 10 to a compatible phone using a Type-C cable.

The GoPro Hero 10 Black has the same 1,720mAh battery as its predecessor. This means if you have a couple of extra Hero 9 batteries, you can easily plug them into the camera. GoPro says the battery provides enough power to record up to 2 hours of full HD videos at 60 fps.

The Hero 10 is the most powerful Hero camera ever made by GoPro. It’s a compact, rough-and-tough camera that offers great performance along with improved features. The camera will be priced at Rs. 54,500*, and it should be available in early November. To know more about order details and availability, keep following us on www.reliancedigital.in.
