Finding a 17-inch laptop that is both, slim and powerful was impossible a few years back. There were mostly bulky gaming laptops. Dell XPS line-up laptops have remained the preferred choice among creative professionals who want extreme performance, portability, and style that doesn’t catch the gamer laptop kind of attention. The newly launched Dell XPS 17 9710 is now even more powerful. Here’s why this could be the ultimate creator’s machine.

The Dell XPS 17 9710 runs the Intel Core i7-11800H CPU and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 GPU. You might have already guessed that these components have all the power needed to chew through heavy workloads. If you work on large projects in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro and Blender, this device can save you a lot of time. The XPS 17 isn’t the typical gaming device, but its configuration is strong enough for high-end games like Battlefield 2042, Call of Duty: Vanguard, GTA V and Far Cry 6. It can still be the occasional gaming rig after work.

The XPS 17 9710 comes with 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 1 TB M.1 NVMe SSD drive for storage. Dell says the laptop uses an Advanced Thermal Design for a consistent performance. The laptop has a 97Whr battery and it ships with a 130W charger.

The laptop runs a 4K screen, supporting 100 per sRGB for spot-on colour accuracy while using photo and video editing tools. The 17-inch screen runs a 16:10 aspect ratio rather than the common 16:9 profile. It gives more space to arrange apps and multitask more seamlessly. The extra space also comes in handy while going through video timelines, as you can scroll through them with fewer clicks. The display also supports touch input and has Gorilla Glass 5 to prevent scratches.

The screen supports HDR 10, so the device is perfect for those who spend a lot of hours in front of the laptop. The screen has a peak brightness of up to 500 nits, enough to make content and text visible in well-lit areas. Dell says the panel also comes with an Eyesafe feature that reduces harmful blue light while maintaining vivid colours, so you can work and play without straining your eyes.

The laptop comes with a narrow bezels display offering a 93.7 per cent screen-to-body ratio. Dells says this allows for a 17-inch screen into a laptop that would normally be a 15-inch screen form factor. The top bezel houses an HD web camera with a noise reduction feature that improves video quality in dim lighting conditions. The top bezel also houses dual microphones with a far-field recognition feature, allowing you to attend Skype calls from up to 4 metres away.

The Dell XPS 17 9710 ships with Windows 11 Pro, the cutting-edge release. The Pro edition gives access to features like Hyper-V, a built-in virtualisation tool that can be used to try a different operating system, and even an older version of Windows. This OS also supports Windows Sandbox, which helps isolate software from the rest of the operating system.

The device’s subtle looks match its slim aesthetics. It comes with an all-aluminium body, making it durable. The device has a scratch-resistant metallic finish to keep smudges away. The edges also use the same finish to prevent damage from repeated plugging and unplugging of peripherals. The palm rest area uses carbon fibre for strength and helps in keeping the laptop’s weight minimal. The laptop uses a Twin Coil press hinge, so the display lid can be opened with just one hand. Dell says the new hinge design is sturdy and keeps the display stable.

The port selection on this device is also impressive. It comes with four Thunderbolt 4 ports supporting power delivery, letting you charge the laptop with your smartphone’s charger. You can also use these ports for high-speed data transfer and for connecting external displays. The device also has a full-size SD card reader, making it easier to offload photos from a DLSR. There is also a 3.5 mm jack for headphones. The device ships with a USB-C to USB-A adapter, so you can connect pen drives, hard drives and printers without any hassles. The package also includes a Type-C to HDMI adaptor for connecting a projector.

The Dell XPS 17 9710 features a well-spaced keyboard. The keys are backlit, so typing in the dark shouldn’t be an issue. Dell says the keycaps are also larger than previous models, making everything more accessible. The power button also doubles up as a fingerprint reader, so you can log in quickly using Windows Hello feature. The trackpad is also wider than most 17-inch laptops and supports a palm rejection feature. It’s a glass trackpad with a matte finish, so you can effortlessly glide your fingers on it. Additionally, it also supports Microsoft Precision Drivers for enhancing the overall multi-tasking experience.

Thanks to the Intel 11th gen CPU and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card, the Dell XPS 17 9710 has all the power you need to handle heavy workloads. The laptop’s large and feature-rich display makes the device perfect for high-end creative work, even occasional gaming, and content binging. All of this comes in a package that is compact and easy to carry. The laptop is priced at Rs. 2,72,599* and it is available at www.reliancedigital.in. You can also have a hands-on experience of the device at your nearest Reliance Digital store.
