There is no doubt Asus knows how to make great gaming laptops while also balancing affordability and portability. The Asus ROG Strix series of laptops have always been the star of Esports. These laptops are popular among gamers for their futuristic designs and outstanding gaming performance. Asus has now updated the ROG Strix series lineup. The new laptops come with 2021’s most powerful processor and graphics card, giving them a competitive edge over other high-end gaming laptops.

The Asus ROG Scar Strix 15 houses the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor. This makes it one of the first laptops in the country to sport AMD’s 5000 series CPUs. Asus says the new 6-core processor offers nearly 38.5 per cent higher single-core and 25.8 per cent multi-core performance than the older AMD Ryzen 4800H CPU. This means there will be no shortage of performance while running music production, video editing and even software development apps. The laptop ships with 16GB of RAM to ensure fluid multitasking, and there is also a massive 1TB of SSD drive for storing data.

It’s the NVIDIA 3000 series graphics card that gives the Asus ROG Scar Strix 15 its true gaming capability. The entry-level model (M01580) is equipped with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card, while the higher-end (M03680) comes with the more power NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 GPU. These graphics cards support Ray Tracking that make games look even more realistic. You can experience it while playing games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Cyberpunk 2077, Dirt 5, and Battlefield V. These graphic solutions are also strong enough to run 3D modelling software such as Autodesk Maya, 3D Max, and Sketchup.

The Asus ROG Scar Strix 15’s strong configuration renders great frame rates, but the device’s higher refresh rate screen ensures you are seeing them. The entry-level model (M01580) has a 15-inch full HD (1920 x 1080) screen that delivers a 300Hz refresh rate. The higher-end model (M03680) has a 165Hz WQHD display (2560 x 1440) for a more detailed gaming experience. This display’s higher resolution makes it the ideal choice for using photo and video editing tools. Both displays support Adaptive-Sync technology to eliminate screen tearing and minimise stuttering. The display also has very narrow bezels making gaming and movie watching experience more immersive.

The Scar’s most impressive design touch is the wraparound light bar that runs along the bottom front of the laptop. The display lid of the laptop uses aluminium, making it resistant to bumps. The palm rest area uses plastic so it can stay cool during long gaming sessions. Asus says the Asus Scar Strix 15 is 7 per cent smaller and more portable than its predecessor. This means you can easily take the laptop to your friend’s place for gaming sessions.

There is also a LAN RJ-45 port for wired internet connection, while wireless connectivity is taken care of by Wi-Fi 6.

The Asus ROG Scar Strix 15 comes with an RGB keyboard, whose keys are comfortably spaced, so there are fewer misses. Asus says the device uses optical-mechanical switches offering a tactile touch to the typing and gaming experience. The keys also use Asus’s ROG Over Stroke technology which registers keypresses earlier in the stroke, resulting in a more responsive gaming experience. The laptop has five dedicated hotkeys for quick adjustments. The keys are placed towards the left so you can use them without taking the right hand off the mouse.
