Large screen laptops are great for gaming, multitasking, and for watching movies and TV shows. They have more room for powerful hardware and efficient cooling solutions. Large screen laptops were a trend a few years back, but in 2021, there aren’t many options. Thankfully, the Dell XPS 17 is an option launched in global markets in late 2020, and it is now finally available in India.

The Dell XPS 17 9700 has a 17-inch 4K OLED display with an InfinityEdge design that cuts out the bottom bezels for a nearly, full-screen experience. The display delivers a screen-to-body ratio of 93.7 per cent. Its 100 per cent sRGB compliance makes it ideal for professional photo and video editing work. It even supports HDR. The touch-enabled display also makes make navigating through apps and settings straightforward.

Dell says the screen’s 500-nit brightness provides clarity in well-lit surroundings, and its 0.65 per cent anti-reflective coating cuts glare of the glossy screen. The display also features Dell’s Eyesafe mode to reduce harmful blue light and maintain vivid colours. Dell claims it’s the first panel to intelligently manage light energy, selectively reducing harmful blue light and dispersing it across the light spectrum.

Bigger laptops are usually bulky, but Dell has successfully made the XPS 17 thin and compact. The device weighs 2.11 kg and is just 18mm in thickness. It isn’t much larger or heavier than the 15-inch model, and so, it can be carried around easily. The XPS 17 uses a high precision machine-milled aluminium chassis. Dell says it is significantly stronger and stiffer than magnesium or plastic. Its carbon fibre palm rest is inspired by the aerospace industry for maximum strength and minimal weight.

The laptop has a scratch-resistant coating on its edges to further prevent damage from repeated plugging and unplugging of peripherals. The laptop’s dual hinges make opening the lid easy, and it also provides stability while using the touchscreen. The screen uses the latest Gorilla Glass 6, which makes it scratch as well as impact resistant.

The Dell XPS 17 9700 uses Intel’s Core i7-10750H processor. The processor uses 6-cores and 12-threads, with a base clock of 2.3GHz and a TurboBoost speed of 5GHz. Dell says the processor provides strong performance while being power-efficient. Most applications should run smoothly without impacting battery life. The XPS 17 can be an ideal laptop for creators as it comes with NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics card. The card is ideal photo, video and 3D modelling apps such as Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects and Autodesk Maya.

The XPS 17 isn’t styled to be a gaming laptop, but you can easily run games such as Fortnite, GTA V, Apex Legends, and Battlefield V at high graphics settings. The laptop also promises smooth multitasking performance thanks to its 16GB of DDR4 RAM. It comes with a 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD, which means Windows boots in no time and data barely takes any time to transfer. Dell manages to keeps all of this high-end hardware cool with its two in-built fans.

The Dell XPS 17 9700 comes with a total of four Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, each doubling as a charging port. The ports can achieve super-fast data transfer speeds, and for connecting external monitors. The laptop also has a full-size SD card reader despite its slim design, and it also has a 3.5 auxiliary jack for connecting wired headphones. It supports the latest Wi-Fi 6 standard and Bluetooth 5.1 for connecting all kinds of peripherals.

The Dell XPS 17’s keyboard has larger keys than smaller XPS models. Dell says the keys provide 1.3mm of travel, and the soft-touch coating makes typing more comfortable. The keys are also backlit, which means typing in the dark will not be a problem. Like the keyboard, the laptop also has a large glass trackpad. This should make scrolling easier. The trackpad also supports Microsoft Precision Touch technology, which means you can use finger gestures to multitask.

The Dell XPS 17’s large chassis also houses a quad-speaker setup. The 2.5W speakers are from Waves MaxxAudio, and Dell says they deliver very crisp and loud sound. The device has a 6-cell 97Wh battery that promises a day’s battery life under moderate usage. The laptop also supports Dell’s Express Charge feature for quick recharging.

The Dell XPS 17 is an elegant 17-inch laptop with Intel’s 10th Gen CPU, NVIDIA’s powerful graphic solution and a colour-accurate display. Surprisingly, it’s not a lot bigger than a 15-inch laptop, which makes carrying it around easy.
