Apple does not just participate in the race but sets the cadence. Over the years, the Apple Watch have been the benchmark for style, functionality, and technology. This year seems no different. With the updated iPhone 15, Apple has also unveiled two watches – the Apple Watch Series 9 and the Ultra Watch 2. These watches aren’t just incremental updates like the others. They bring tons of new health and fitness features along with the performance ones which exceeds all expectations.

The Powerhouse

Both the Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 watches come with the all-new S9 chipset. This is quite noteworthy as the last big chip update back in the Series 6. Apple says the updated S9 chip has 60 per cent more transistors than the S8 one, making it faster at machine learning tasks. The upgraded chipset offers enhanced power efficiency compared to previous models, allowing for extended periods between charges.

These watches also introduce the U2 chip, which can locate your iPhone using Precision Finding. Apple says it also boosts dictation accuracy by 25 per cent, ensuring voice commands are understood more accurately.

Both the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 now offer 64 GB of storage space, a substantial upgrade from 32 GB allocation. This expanded storage ensures that users have ample room for their apps, music, photos, and more, providing a more versatile and accommodating user experience.

Bumping the nits

The Series 9 and Ultra 2 both feature enhanced display brightness, with the Series 9 reaching a maximum of 2,000 nits and the Ultra 2 at an impressive 3,000 nits. This brightness boost ensures superior performance in bright sunlight conditions. They can also dim down to just 1 nit in low-light situations, such as at night or in a movie theatre.

The upgraded display architecture also enhances the flashlight feature’s functionality. When you rotate the Digital Crown, it temporarily doubles the brightness, providing a powerful burst of light to illuminate your surroundings more effectively. The Always-On display now boasts even more customisable options, so you get more information at your fingertips without lifting your wrist.

Prioritizing durability

These watches are as stylish as their predecessors. Apple Watch Series 9 is available in 41mm and 45mm sizes and comes in Starlight, Midnight, Silver and (PRODUCT) RED colours. Apple has also introduced a pink aluminium, as well as stainless steel finished models in Gold, Silver, and Graphite colours.

The Ultra model also leave a strong impression with its design. Its case blends neatly with its large display giving the Ultra its distinctive look. The Watch 2 Ultra isn’t just about style, it’s about durability too. Apple says it has been tested for use 500 meters below sea level and up to 9,000 meters above, to ascend the world’s tallest peaks.

Designed for single hand usage

The Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 introduce a brand-new feature called the Double Tap Gesture. This feature enables users to control their watch with one hand conveniently. To use it, quickly tap your index finger and thumb together twice. Apple says it acts like a virtual button on your watch and lets you perform common actions instantly. You can use it to stop a timer, play or pause music, snooze an alarm, answer or end phone calls and even take photos with the Camera Remote on your Apple Watch.

New level of OS integration

The Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra run on the latest WatchOS 10 which bring a tons of UI improvements. Apple says every app has been redesigned to give you more information in a glance. The new Smart Stack widgets allow you to simply rotate the crown and access relevant and timely information. Apple has also introduced new watches faces which make them more stylish and elegant.
