Ever since the launch of the Apple Watch, the perception of consumers towards smartwatches has completely changed. Traditionally, smartwatches had bulky designs and their functions were limited just to answering calls or controlling music apps. Moreover, they had a battery life that barely lasted a day.

With the launch of the Apple watch series 1, Apple showcased the world that a smartwatch could have a perfect balance between style and functionality. With the day-long battery life and added health-fitness features, Apple watches were way ahead of their competitors.

Apple updated their original Apple Watch with the Series 2 and the Series 3, adding more health features. The Series 3 also added LTE capabilities so you could use it even without an iPhone. But even after three generations, Apple hardly made any design changes to the Apple Watch.

With the announcement of the Apple Watch Series 4, Apple plans to take a step further. The Apple Watch Series 4 is now bigger, better and has more power than any other Apple Watch of the past. This year, it’s not just about the design but also improved health-fitness features.

What else is new? Join us and explore what makes this the watch of the future.

An all-new design and display

The Apple Watch Series 4 still retains the rectangular shape from its predecessors, but has a stunning edge-to-edge display which instantly grabs attention. Apple claims the display to be 30 per cent bigger than the older models.

The Apple Watch Series 4 comes in two different screen sizes. The smaller 40mm variant has a display area of 759sq mm and a display resolution of 394 x 324 pixels. The bigger 44mm version has a display area of 977sq mm with a display resolution of 448 x 368 pixels. As they have edge-to-edge displays, there is hardly any noticeable change to the thickness of the watches.

The Apple Watch Series 4 will be available in two different finishes. Along with the aluminium finish which is similar to the previous models, the Series 4 will now also be available in a new stainless steel finish which looks extremely impressive. Apple has also added a new gold colour for both finishes.

What new features can I expect?

The newest addition in the Apple Watch Series 4 is haptic feedback. The digital crown also holds an ECG sensor. Apple claims that with the haptic feedback and watchOS 5, the new watches will be more responsive and fun to use.

The Apple Watch Series 4 sports Bluetooth 5.0, which is a first for any smartwatch. Apple claims that with Bluetooth 5.0, the Series 4 models will use low energy for data transmission. It also gets an improved accelerometer and gyroscope which can detect if the person wearing the watch has fallen. In case of such emergencies, the watch can also prompt calls to the emergency services. Also in cases if person stops moving, the watch automatically sends location to the saved SOS contacts.

Siri has just got better with the new Series 4. You are no longer required to say “Hey Siri”; it understands your command every time you raise your wrist. Apple has also included a Walkie-Talkie app which lets you communicate with other Apple watch users. This can be a fun way to communicate, without having to make an actual phone call.

Battery enhancements – a more usable watch

The Apple Watch Series 4 does not receive any major battery improvements. Apple says that the watch can last 18 hours after an overnight charge, even after doing a bunch of activities such as checking the time, receiving notifications, using apps and doing workouts. The battery life may differ from person to person, depending on their usage.

Health and Fitness at its heart

One of the biggest deals with the Apple Watch is its health features. With the Apple Watch Series 4, Apple has added a bunch of phenomenal features.

The Apple Watch Series 4 includes an ECG sensor which is one of its kind for a smartwatch. It uses two sensors, one the underside of the watch which makes contact with the skin and other placed within the digital crown. The person wearing the watch is required to place finger on the digital crown in order to record ECG readings. It also come with the second generation heart rate sensor which is capable of detecting irregular heart-beats as well.

The Apple Watch Series 4 definitely seems interesting over the previous generation. We really can’t wait for it to arrive in India. For the latest updates on it, keep following us at www.reliancedigital.in
