Smartphones priced right under the Rs. 15,000 mark are particularly impressive. It appears they offer the best bang for the buck, by gathering as many features as you can think of. Vivo’s reputation for making competitive smartphones in this price range has taken them far. The new Y20G is a youthful device, for those who want something more than just an everyday smartphone. This is the kind of device you buy every couple of years and use it thoroughly before upgrading to the next one. The Vivo Y20G seems to be all the things needed for that to happen.
The Vivo Y20G is a stunner, with two colour options to choose from – Obsidian Black and Purist Blue. It is not just the colours, but the finish used on the back panels. It as pure and pristine as it gets for a phone at this price range. The front of the phone has a gorgeous 6.51-inch, 720 x 1600 pixel display. That’s a fine display to watch movies and TV shows on. You won’t have to worry about squinting and reading fine text on it either. What’s more, it is an IPS panel so you get the benefits of great colour rendition and good viewing angles too. There is also an Eye Protection feature that reduces any kind of eye fatigue you get from staring at your phone too long.

Most of us are keen on solid performance from our new smartphones and you won’t be disappointed. The new Vivo Y20G runs an Helio G80 processor alongside 6GB of RAM. This is the standard for the higher-end model priced at Rs. 14,990*. The slightly more affordable model runs 4GB of RAM along with the same processor. It sells for Rs. 12,990*. It gets 64GB of storage, compared to 128GB on the pricier model. Storage is no trouble either way. Besides the inbuilt storage on both phones, there is also a microSD card slot for extending the storage to your heart’s content. You will have enough space to store all your favorite apps, games, movies, TV shows, photos and music.
The design of the phone is glorious no doubt, but what’s also interesting is its quick fingerprint sensor. Vivo claims it can unlock your smartphone in just 0.17 seconds, quicker than you can blink your eyes. The fingerprint scanner is also conveniently placed on the side, so your finger lies naturally on it, without having to find it. Face unlocking is also present if you prefer using it. The front-facing camera is the only thing you see besides the screen at the front. It’s a teardrop design, so it does not take up much space.

The front camera has an 8MP sensor, and an f/1.8 aperture. That enables the camera to click great selfies, even in low light. The rear camera array is even more impressive though. The 13MP camera takes prime focus and it’s responsible for the detail you see in the picture. There are two, 2MP sensors, one that helps click those majestic bokeh photos, the kind typically seen on expensive DSLRs. The other 2MP camera is a super macro one, letting you get as close as 4cm from the subject. The camera app has a range of features, letting you click great portrait photos, slow-motion videos, even panoramas and time-lapse shots.
Not everything about the Y20G surrounds the hardware though. There are also some great software features that come handy. The AI Editor makes video editing simpler, by taking the job of finding faces and the right scenes on itself and makes the edits for you. It creates its own clip, and you can tweak things further. This saves a lot of time.

The Ultra Game mode is another feature, that stops notifications from popping up during a game, and stops the phone from randomly adjusting the brightness. There are finger gestures available that let you dive straight into a game while you’re chatting on other apps. There are also enhancements to the audio to make games more immersive. It can mean the difference between a win or a loss in a competitive online game.
The Multi-Turbo 3.0 feature is there to ensure any issues are handled before they surface. Network efficiency and keeping temperatures under control are some of the other critical tasks it handles. All of this is powered by AI so it’s quick and it knows when to act. The result is a stable, and well-performing device. The iManager feature is another similar component, ensuring completely security and stability. Any malware and security risks are kept at bay, and all the scanning and monitoring is done while you’re fast asleep at night, so you won’t notice any slowdown when you’re using the phone.

Battery life is an import component of most high-end phones, and we are glad to report the Vivo Y20G comes with just as massive a battery as them. It’s rated at 5,000 mAh and Vivo claims its 18W fast charging can help you top up the charge in no time at all. Vivo says the phone takes about 69 minutes to charge from 0 to 70 per cent. What’s more, you can use the Y20G can be used like a battery pack to charge other devices using the micro USB port. You will need a cable to do that though.
The Vivo Y20G ticks off several check boxes for good smartphones at this kind of price. It’s elegant, powerful, secure and smart.
