Vivo has a reputation for offering stylish and powerful mid-range devices at affordable prices. Their phones perfectly balance design, features and performance, and the newly announced Vivo V20 promises to be no different. The phone replaces the Vivo V19, and it now comes with more camera-centric features like the flagship Vivo X50.

The new Vivo V20 promises to be an upgrade over the Vivo V19. The phone uses an all-glass design that adds to the premium look of the phone. Vivo says the glass is treated with a special chemical etching process, to keep fingerprints away and protect the phone from scratches. It is built on an aluminum chassis like premium flagships, to give the phone its structural rigidity. The V20 weighs 191 grams and is 7.8mm thick. Vivo claims it is one the slimmest mid-range smartphones available right now. The device sports an in-display fingerprint reader that can be used to unlock the device, make payments and download apps. The phone is available in three striking colours – Midnight Jazz, Moonlight Sonata, and Sunset Melody.

The Vivo V20 comes with a 6.44-inch full HD display running a screen resolution of 2400 x 1080. It uses an AMOLED panel, which means the V20 renders excellent images with deep black and high contrast. This should make it a good choice for reading e-books, playing games and watching movies. The display also supports the always-on feature that lets you see notifications and other information briefly. The phone’s water-drop notch and earpiece neatly blend with the display to give the V20 a cleaner look. The screen also promises good outdoor visibility with its 500 nits of brightness.

The Vivo V20 runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 720G processor. This is Qualcomm’s mid-range processors that were seen in many upper mid-tier devices of 2019. It comes with 8-cores, and it is capable of delivering speeds up to 2.3 GHz. Vivo claims, this processor can handle most apps and games with ease. The device also has an Adreno 662 GPU that promises stutter-free performance while playing high-end games such as Call of Duty: Mobile. The phone comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB on internal storage. It also has a dedicated microSD card slot that lets you expand the storage up to 512GB.

The Vivo V20 is one of the first mid-range devices to ship with Android 11. The new OS brings tons of new features such as inbuilt screen recording mode, updated media controls, and a dark theme scheduling feature. The new update also improves privacy as apps require more permissions to collect data. The phone uses Vivo’s Funtouch OS 11 that is designed to offer a near-stock Android look. Icons are now much smaller, and the OS uses fluid animations and theme packs. The Funtouch OS 11 also comes with an updated Ultra Game Mode that streamlines notifications during gameplay to offer a more immersive gaming experience. The phone also supports gestures that make navigating through apps and menus easier.

The Vivo V20 comes with triple-cameras at the rear. The primary 64 MP primary camera comes with an f/1.8 aperture that lets you click great low-light images. It also supports Vivo’s new Steady Tripod mode, that further enhances them. The secondary 8MP camera comes with a 120-degrees field-of-view. This can be helpful while clicking landscapes, architecture and groups of people without having to take steps backwards. The phone also comes with a 2MP macro camera that allows capturing ultra-fine close-up images from as close as 2.5cm.

The Vivo V20 is also one of the first mid-range devices to sport a 44MP front camera. Vivo claims, the camera can focus well no matter how far you hold it, which can help when you are clicking pictures using a selfie stick. Vivo has also intro a new Eye Autofocus mode that can track your eyes to click clear selfie photos and videos, even when you are on the move. The phone also has a Dual-View Video mode that gives a picture-in-picture view of both, front and rear cameras. This can be a good feature if you record tutorial vlogs and tutorial videos. The front camera now also supports Vivo’s Night Mode, that allows clicking clear selfies even in the dark. Both, front and rear cameras support EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization), and they record 4K videos up to 30 fps.

The Vivo V20 is a dual-SIM LTE device. It comes with Wi-Fi 802.11ac for seamless internet connectivity and Bluetooth 5.1 for connecting audio devices and peripherals. The device also has NFC that lets you pair NFC-enabled devices, and make payments just by a tap. The phone’s stereo speaker setup will be also come handy while listening to music and watching movies. The phone also has a 3.5mm auxiliary jack for connecting wired headphones. The Vivo V20 houses a 4,000 mAh battery that should power the device through a day or more, under moderate usage. The phone ships with Vivo’s 33W FlashCharge adaptor that promises 0 to 65 per cent charge under 30 minutes.

The Vivo V20 offers premium photography features at an affordable price. The phone’s triple-camera configuration along with its large 44MP front-camera promises to make it a solid, mid-range device for photography enthusiasts. The phone also has everything else you can expect for a mid-ranger, such as a large AMOLED screen and a powerful processor for strong performance.
