From unlocking the speed (OnePlus 6T) to saluting the speed (OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition), these phones have been pulling the attention of the crowd the world over. OnePlus launched their special edition of OnePlus 6T by teaming up with one of the biggest names, the British car manufacturer, McLaren. The McLaren Group is one of the world’s most renowned names, which designs technologically advanced racing machines. Formula 1 is where they’ve been at and have won 20 World Championships and a total of around 180 races to date.

While the OnePlus 6T is the company’s flagship model selling at Rs. 37,999* with an incremental hardware update, their McLaren Edition is now priced at Rs. 50,999*. So, what does the extra money get you in this limited edition phone?

OnePlus 6T at its core

This strikingly premium design phone has not a lot more, but a OnePlus 6T at core. We had our hands on the standard OnePlus 6T and we’ve already reviewed it. It’s a brilliant product. Our next move is to know what makes the McLaren edition really unique and stand out from the regular version.

Inspired by the McLaren design

The inspiration of design strikes just by glancing at the packaging. The papaya orange box with a carbon fibere-like texture reminds us of Formula 1 cars. OnePlus even calls it the hallmarks of the McLaren Group. The front of this phone is similar to that of the standard OnePlus 6T, featuring a 6.4-inch AMOLED display. Major design differences can be found at the back. This phone sports an industrial design with a carbon fiber finish on the back, known to be five times as strong as stainless steel, but much lighter. So it’s stronger but without the weight.

Besides this, the bottom edges of the McLaren OnePlus 6T has a thin lining of papaya orange, along with a holographic effect logo on the back. It really stands out, adding a premium look to the phone.

Warp Charge 30

OnePlus 6T has taken care of battery eater apps and games in their McLaren edition. This phone comes with a 3700 mAh capacity battery under the hood, similar to their standard variant. What’s new about the McLaren edition is that, it is the first phone to support the Warp Charge 30 technology. This is a new battery charging technology that can top up the phone’s battery with 30W (5 Volts at 6A) of power. The standard 6T model charger was rated at 20W (5 Volts at 4 A). OnePlus claims their McLaren edition can charge up to 50 percent in 20 minutes time, which is quite impressive.

Hardware top-up

The tagline of the McLaren edition – “Salute to Speed” says everything. This phone is packed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor along with a whopping 10GB of RAM. This means every clicks and swipes is a breeze. Launching apps and multi-tasking will be faster as will be playing heavy-graphics games. Also, you probably won’t notice any lag or stuttering while running heavy apps.

Custom software experience

We all wish and try customizing our phones for a better experience. It can be as simple as buying new phone cases and skins, changing wallpapers and themes or by using a phone launcher to give a complete new look. With the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition, you don’t really have think about customising. Right from the design to software everything is neatly customized. This phone runs on Android 9 Pie topped with Oneplus proprietary, OxygenOS. In addition, it is feature exclusive with lots of wallpapers, animations and themes.

Inside the box

The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition is a premium phone, spiced with the latest hardware and features. The McLaren inspired design, 10GB of RAM and Warp charging technology are really impressive features and you would hardly find them on any other high-end phones. Also, if you are a die-hard fan of McLaren, yes this phone is for you.
