Samsung Galaxy A54 – Surpasses mid-range device expectations

Most recent smart phones sport similar features to previous generation models, with minimal differences. Smartphone manufacturers like Samsung are responding to this pattern. Samsung phones are known for their reliability and performance. Last year’s Samsung A53 earned a reputation for being an impressive set of hardware. Samsung is taking its legacy ahead with the all-new, completely overhauled A54. It brings an all-new design, better performance and a flagship-grade camera with great reliability. But, are these changes enough to make this phone hold the throne?

The new Samsung Galaxy A54 looks completely different from its predecessor. It is slimmer too, with rounded edges, instead of squared ones. The plastic rear from last year has now been replaced by glass, giving the device a more premium appeal. The phone weighs about 200 grams, which is comparatively lighter than most glass-constructed mid-range smartphones. The device has three cameras with a minimal bump, giving the phone a much more refined look.

The Samsung Galaxy A54 isn’t just stylish; it is rugged. It comes with an IP67 water and dust-resistant rating, meaning rain and dust won’t be an issue. It can also withstand accidental falls, thanks to the Gorilla Glass 5 at the front and back. The Samsung A54 is available in three colours. The Awesome Lime and Awesome Violet shades are bright and stand out from traditional smartphone colours. If you want something more subtle and dark, the Awesome Graphite variant may be the better choice.

Samsung leads the display technology space, and the A54’s screen is evidence of it. It is a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED panel rendering extremely accurate and natural-looking colours. AMOLED displays have great contrast levels. The screen supports 1000 nits of peak brightness and even comes with HDR10+ support. Additionally, there is also 120 Hz refresh rate support. This feature comes in handy while gaming and also makes the overall UI experience a lot smoother. The screen also has an in-display fingerprint sensor, which is fast and can help quickly unlock the device.

Samsung has given the Galaxy A54 all the power it needs, with the Exynos 1380 octa-core CPU. It’s perfect for high-end apps and games. Samsung says the CPU is also more power efficient and offers better battery life. The phone comes with 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, you can choose between 128 GB and 256 GB storage options. The device also has a micro SD card slot with support for cards up to 1TB in capacity.

The Samsung A54 5G is a dual-SIM 5G device, supporting the latest Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. It also has Bluetooth 5.3 for a seamless wireless audio experience. There is also NFC that enables tap payments and quick pairing with compatible devices. The A54 has a 5,000 mAh battery, and Samsung says it can last up to two days. The device ships with a 25W fast charger which shouldn’t take much time for a full charge. The phone runs on Android 13 and uses Samsung’s latest OneUI 5.1. The new UI brings better customization and tons of new features to make your Galaxy experience more intuitive. Samsung says the phone will support four generations of OS updates and five years of security patches.

Samsung knows well that the camera performance of a smartphone can influence buying decisions. To deliver this, it has equipped the phone with an all-new 50MP primary sensor. Samsung says the new sensor significantly improves details in photos. It also has a wider f.1.8 aperture to make it excellent at capturing low-light photos. This camera also has OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) and supports video recording up to 4K resolutions.

The secondary 12 MP camera offers a 123-degree field of view and is perfect for wide-angle landscape shots. Last year’s depth sensor has now been replaced by a 5MP macro camera, so you easily get up-close to the subject. For selfies, the phone comes with a 32MP front-facing camera. It can record 4K 30fps videos. The A54 even supports a Dual Camera mode, so you can record footage from the front and rear cameras simultaneously.

The mid-range smartphone segment is crowded, but the Samsung Galaxy A54 has everything need to make it stand out. The A54 has some of the best build quality seen on a smartphone and its long-term software support only helps its case. The device is also well configured, with enough power and a solid set of cameras which are designed for pro-grade photography. Prices for the base variant start at Rs. 28,999* and the phone is available at your nearest Reliance Digital store.
