OnePlus Pad – A game changer for Android fans?

The Android tablet space has been a little unexciting the past few years, with only a few entry to mid-range tablets, with little taste of success like the rivals. OnePlus, a flagship smartphone killer brand is now aiming its crosshairs at the tablet market, with the OnePlus Pad, a tablet made for creators and pro-users. It comes with an excellent display, best-in-class hardware and a design that simply looks better than the industry leaders.

The OnePlus Pad is one of the nicest and sleekest tablets we have ever seen in a long time. The device is 6.5mm thin, so it is thinner even than a pencil. Despite its all-metal body, it weighs only 552 grams, which is quite impressive too. OnePlus is offering the tablet in a Halo Green colour, which looks more refreshing than the regular black and silver finishes. The rear has a radial finish which OnePlus calls the Star Orbit pattern. The design is both impressive and clever since the textured back also helps keep fingerprints away.

The tablet has a magnetic pin connector at the bottom for attaching the Magnetic Keyboard (sold separately). This mechanism comes in very handy, as you can connect the OnePlus Magnetic keyboard without using Bluetooth. The keyboard is well-designed, comes with spaced-out keys and also has a trackpad with multi-touch support. It also has a 120-degree tilt angle, which means you can use the tablet like a laptop.

Creators will also appreciate the OnePlus Stylo (optional accessory), a 2ms low-latency stylus which helps to take notes and sketch without any of the annoying lag. OnePlus says the pen supports a 60-degree inclination and has 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity allowing artists to showcase the finest details with the best accuracy.

The OnePlus Pad has an 11.61-inch display with a resolution of 2,000 x 2,800 px. The display has a 7:5 screen aspect ratio, which is different than the regular 16:10 ratio tablets we’ve seen all along. This gives the tablet a shape that is more square than rectangular; it’s easy to hold and use the tablet. OnePlus says the display supports 1 billion colours and delivers great colour accuracy. It’s a perfect handy device for photographers working on colour correction tools like Adobe Lightroom.

With Dolby Vision and HDR 10+ support, the tablet is also perfect for content bingers. The IPS LCD screen supports 500nits of brightness, so you can comfortably watch content even in broad sunlight. The display also offers a 144Hz refresh rate, making gaming and the overall UI experience fluid. OnePlus has also ensured that the tablets sound good too. The device comes with a quad-speaker setup that dynamically changes as you rotate the tablet. These speakers are loud, deliver good details and are great for gaming as well as content watching.

The OnePlus Pad has everything needed to deliver flagship performance. It comes with the MediaTek Dimensity 900 CPU, a processor seen on many flagship phones. This means the device should have no issues in handling high-end apps and games. The device comes with 8 GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There is also a higher-end variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Since both models use UFS 3.1 storage type, opening apps and transferring data takes little time.

The device is also quite solid in battery life. It has a 9,510mAh battery claiming 30 days of standby time and up to 12 hours of video playback. The device supports 67W SUPERVOOC fast charging, claiming a full charge in 80 minutes. The tablet comes with the latest Wi-Fi 6 connectivity standard and the latest Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity.

The OnePlus Pad runs on Android 13 with Oxygen OS 13. The software has been optimised for the device, so you get features like the Split Screen mode that make multitasking between windows a breeze. There is also an Auto Connect feature so you can quickly share files between OnePlus devices. You can also turn on the Cross Screen Transmission feature to automatically transfer photos and videos from your phone to the tablet. OnePlus also promises regular software updates to introduce new features and keep the tablet running smoothly.

In case you need to quickly scan documents, the OnePlus’s Pad 13 MP rear camera won’t disappoint. It clicks clear pictures, comes with a flash and can record 4K videos at 30 fps. The front 8 MP camera records full HD videos and has a wide field of view, so you can have better group video calls.

The OnePlus Pad has the potential to change the future of Android tablets. It looks and feels premium than most tablets. With the power to deal with all the latest apps and games, bundled with an outstanding display, the OnePlus Pad appears to be a clear winner at a starting price of Rs. 37,999*.
