Foldable phones have come a long way from just being a gimmick. These days, smartphones come with great hardware, build quality and practicality in mind. However, one thing about the foldable smartphone space was its price. But, it seems like Moto has solved this. Motorola recently launched the Moto Razr 40 and Moto Razr 40 Ultra, two foldable devices, priced way below the competition. They come with powerful hardware and Moto’s reputation for durability. This time around, they also claim to be among the slimmest foldables around.

Design is one of the most striking elements of the all-new Moto Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra. There are different finishes and materials used, depending on the colour you choose. The Ultra model comes in Infinite Black and Glacier Blue colours and uses Gorilla Glass Victus for the bottom half of the phone. There is also a Viva Magenta variant with a vegan leather finish. The standard Razr 40 comes in Sage Green, Summer Lilac, and Vanilla cream colours and uses Gorilla Glass Victus protection. All models use a 7000 series aluminium frame which gives them their solid durability.

Both Razr 40 devices now come with a new teardrop hinge design that reduces the gap between two screens. The Ultra model now measures 15.1mm when folded, compared to the 17mm thickness of last year’s model. When you unfold the phone, it is just 6.9mm thick, which makes it one of the thinnest foldable phones. Despite being foldable devices, these phones have an IP52 certification, so they can withstand splashes, spills, sweat and the occasional light rain.

The Moto Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra now sports a bigger 6.9-inch OLED display offering a full HD resolution. The panel supports all the premium features such as HDR10+ and 10-bit colours, so you get the best content viewing experience. The screen also supports a 165 Hz refresh rate for faster scrolling and an overall smooth UI experience. Moto says the screen also supports up to 360 Hz touch response rate for an accurate gaming experience. The screen comes preinstalled with a protector film which should protect it from scratches.

The Razr 40 Ultra has a 3.6-inch external OLED display with a 1066 x 1056 px resolution. It gives you easy access to notifications, quick settings and even a dedicated Spotify music player interface. Since the rear camera is neatly placed within the screen, you can also use the display to take selfies. You can also use the display to use Google Maps, reply to messages and even play some casual games. This second display also doesn’t compromise on features. It comes with HDR10+, 10-bit colour depth, 144 Hz refresh rate and a touch response rate of 360 Hz.

With great style, both Razr 40 phones bring a powerful performance. The standard variant equips a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 CPU which is a powerful CPU to run most apps and games. If you want the latest generation CPU, the Razr 40 Ultra model runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU can be the perfect choice. Both devices are available with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. They ship with Android 13 OS and have a stock Android-like interface. Motorola is promising long-term software and security updates, making these phones a future-proof choice. Both phones come with dual-SIM 5G support and have Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6 support.

These phones come with a side-placed fingerprint sensor for security. You can also unlock them using the front-facing camera. Despite their thin designs, the standard variant houses a 4,200 mAh battery. The Ultra variant has a 3,800 mAh battery and both phones offer strong, all-day battery life. The Ultra model also supports 30W fast charging to significantly reduce the charging times. It also comes with 5W wireless charging support.

The Motorola Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra come with a solid camera configuration. The Ultra model comes with a primary 12MP camera that has an f/1.5 aperture. This camera comes with OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) and can record 4K videos at 60 fps. There is also a 13 MP secondary camera supporting ultra-wide photography support. It offers a 108-degree FOV, making it perfect for landscape photos. You can also use this camera for macro photography. The standard model has 64 MP and 13 MP rear cameras. Both variants support Night Vision and even a Dual Capture mode, which makes them perfect for vlogs. For selfies, these phones come with a 32 MP front-facing camera.
