Moto Edge 30 Ultra – A flagship for the masses

Motorola doesn’t introduce new phones all too often but when they do, it never fails to gather a lot of attention. Motorola has been known for its entry and mid-range smartphones segment for a long time. Its entry into the upper-end smartphone segment with the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra should be exciting at the very least. It sits above Moto’s 2022 Edge line-up of devices and claims to be a true-grade flagship for the masses. You get everything from latest-gen design and processor, to long-lasting battery life. However, the real highlight are the cameras whose performance is something few other flagship smartphones can match. With a price tag of Rs. 54,990*, this phone seems too good to be real. Here’s all you need to know about it.

The Motorola Edge 30 Ultra is a performance powerhouse. It relies on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU, which is currently the best chip for Android smartphones. No matter what games or applications you run, this phone can handle them all. Motorola says this CPU is powerful but power efficient, allowing the phone to offer long battery life under heavy usage. The device comes with 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It is designed to be a solid multitasker while ensuring app loading and data transferring is speedy. The Edge 30 Ultra is a dual SIM 5G device. You also get support for the latest Wi-Fi 6 standard and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity standards.

The Edge 30 Ultra runs the latest Android 12 OS and offers a near-stock interface. Motorola has added a few in-house software, like the ReadyFor that lets you use your phone like a desktop computer on an external display. A Gametime Utility feature has also been added, providing options like notification blocking and screen recording. It’s also worth mentioning that Motorola promises up to three major OS updates for the Edge 30 Ultra. The Edge 30 Ultra will also be receiving four years of security updates, making the device future-proof.

The phone’s 200 MP primary camera is hard to miss. It’s the first device to use the Samsung HP1 200MP sensor promising solid details in images. Due to its high resolution and support for f/1.9 aperture, you can expect sharp and crisp images even in low light conditions. This camera has OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) with support for up to 8K video recording. The 50MP ultra-wide angle secondary camera offers an f/2.2 aperture and 114-degree field of view. The 12 MP telephoto lens also promises to capture plenty of details with balanced saturation and colours.

On the front, one can find a 60 MP selfie camera capable of capturing great selfies. Motorola says the front camera uses its Quad Pixel technology that combines four 15 MP images instantly to improve clarity in challenging light conditions. The front camera is capable of recording 4K videos, so this phone can also be a great choice for vloggers and YouTubers.

The device stands up to its Ultra-tag with its massive 6.67-inch display. It uses a P-OLED panel supporting up to 1 billion colours. Motorola says the display renders natural colours with vivid contrast and deep blacks. It also supports premium features like HLG and HDR 10+, allowing users to enjoy HDR content across various streaming platforms. With support for up to 144 Hz refresh rate, this phone is also perfect for playing games like Call of Duty: Mobile, Minecraft and Asphalt: Airborne. Higher refresh rate screens also make web browsing and scrolling through social media apps a lot smoother. The screen can produce up to 1,250 nits of peak brightness too.

Minimal screen bezels and rounded edges ensure you can hold this device comfortably. Motorola devices are known for their tough construction, and the Edge 30 Ultra is no different. The device sports a slim aluminium frame for structural rigidity. It comes with Gorilla Glass 5 both at the front and rear for protection against accidental falls and scratches. The rear glass has a matte finish which also helps to keep fingerprints away.

The device is also IP52-rated, ensuring it can easily take on dust and splashes of water. The phone is available in Interstellar Black and Starlight White colours. It ships with a clear case, so you can show off the device’s premium design but with a safety layer of protection. The phone can be unlocked using the in-display fingerprint sensor, while it also supports face recognition using the front camera.

The phone comes with a massive 4,610 mAh battery promising up to two days of battery life. The device ships with a 125W TurboPower charger, and Motorola says a 7-minute charge provides enough power for a day. The phone also supports 50 W wireless charging. There is also support for 10 W reverse charging, so you can charge other wireless phones and supported truly wireless devices with the phone.

The Motorola Edge 30 Ultra is a reliable, well-balanced, premium smartphone. It is priced way below most Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU phones, making flagship-level performance accessible to everyone. The phone’s unmatchable camera performance, great display and solid battery life make it a solid all-rounder.
