Mohan and Jeet’s quest for affordable & hygienic drinking water

“Again this month I am left with an empty wallet, don’t know where the money goes.” A clearly perturbed Mohan said to his roommate Jeet as they were casually having a conversation in their room. “I agree with you bro. I thought life will be fun with my first job in a banking sector in a new city with new people and full freedom and independence. But reality turned out to be way different… although there is independence and freedom there are ten things to tackle travel expense, rent, maid’s payment and the list is never ending said Jeet with a sigh.

Pondering over the situation, Jeet casually took his smartphone out and started calculating their estimate monthly expenditure and was startled. Shocking he exclaimed, “Mohan, do you have any idea how much amount we spend on a monthly basis?” Mohan shrugging his shoulder said, looking at the state of my wallet, definitely more than I ever thought.” Jeet said, Bro, we spend anywhere between Rs 15,000- Rs 20,000 a month! With almost Rs 2000/- in traveling Rs 10,000/-  in rent, Rs 4,000/-  in food, Rs 1,000/- to the maid and around Rs 2,000/- in buying 20-liter mineral water   can! Mohan was equally shocked to know this and said, “Jeet, we really need to figure a way out to curtail expenses.” To which Mohan replied saying, “But, how it is possible? Food, traveling, maid, water and rent are the basic things we can’t cut-back on anything.”

Starting at the calculated amount Jeet thought for a while “Ummm… why don’t we start making food at home that will help?” Mohan agreed and said “Cool, also I was too bored of eating outside food and what else can we curb on?” Thinking hard on that after few minutes they both looked at each other and simultaneously said, “Water Can!” Mohan enthusiastically said, “We can boil the water and store it in the bottle or other container or best we could invest in a Matka (earthen pot).” After hearing him out Jeet said, “Bro, you know the water supply is pretty erratic here and frankly, boiling water on the stove means consumption of more fuel which means a higher bill which means this will add more holes to our pockets. In my opinion, we should look for a water purifier.”

Mohan looking a little disapproved by Jeet’s suggestion said, “We can save a lot of money and moreover, matka has nature alkaline present in it which increases the pH level in water and reduces acidity and other gastric issues.” Jeet looked baffled and said, “But Mohan, giving the level of contamination just boiling the water won’t make it consumable like mineral water and storing it in a matka won’t be effective.” Mohan in a cynical tone said, “Are you sure?” Jeet promptly said, yes yaar, I recently came across a very interesting article on water purifiers and stunned to know that there are different types of purification technology for different types of water.  Astounded on hearing it “Type of water? You got to be kidding Jeet” That’s when Jeet shared the article with Mohan who was not just intrigued but also understood Jeet’s view on opting for a water purifier over a matka. Hmmm….this article has definitely changed my opinion yaar, I guess you are right Jeet we should opt for a water purifier but, now the question arises which water purifier would be apt for our usage? There are so many! Abruptly Jeet suggested, “Why don’t we talk to our landlord?” “Landlord? How will he help us? “Mohan surprisingly asked.  “Arrey, I saw a water purifier at his place the other day when we had gone to pay the rent. Probably he could suggest good water purifier.” Jeet said.

As they were heading downstairs their landlord noticed them and called them inside on making them comfort he enquired, “Any issues Jeet and Mohan you both look a little disturbed?” Jeet said, “Uncle, we are planning to buy a water purifier, but we are unable to make up our mind on which one to choose.” The landlord then said, “It’s good that you’ll are planning to invest in a water purifier those water can’s dispenser is a pain to maintain as it needs regular cleaning or else it tends to get mucky in the bottom after prolonged usage. And, boiling & storing in bottles will only add more problems as it will leave white stains which is hard to get rid of. Although there wasn’t much option to look around like today I too did a lot of research before finding an RO water purifier for my home you know, it reduces the hardness of water considerably. It’s a good choice but, you’ll can also look for other options.”

In a very hesitant voice, Mohan said, “But uncle, isn’t the cost too much?” The landlord looked at Mohan with a smile and said, “Son, there are water purifiers starting as reasonable as Rs 1700/- and as expensive as Rs 27000/- and the amount you spend yearly on a mineral water is roughly around Rs 24,000. So, isn’t it wise to rather invest in a water purifier which will cost you’ll around the same price range? Mohan and Jeet looked at each other and smiled sheepishly but they were also glad to finally find some guidance.

If water cans are consuming your expenses like Jeet and Mohan’s and if storing water in plastic bottles is a hygiene concern to you then you must certainly consider investing in a water purifier that suits your requirements. To explore an array of water purifiers of well-known brands click here.
