Microsoft Surface series devices have their distinguished character in the mobile computing space. They are portable, well-constructed and designed to offer powerful performance for on-the-go users. This year, Microsoft has revamped its Surface line-up by introducing the all-new Surface Laptop Go 2 laptop. This device holds a middle ground between the entry-level Surface Go 3 tablet and the high-end Surface Laptop 4. It costs a little more than its entry-level sibling but brings tons of features from the flagship Surface Laptop 4, offering you the best mix of price, portability and performance.

The Microsoft Surface Go 2 is a mid-range laptop that looks premium from every angle. It is designed to be thin and light, so you can easily take it around in a backpack or while moving from one meeting room to other. The laptop has a unique dual-tone colour scheme that easily stands out from the crowd. It is available in four colour options – Ice Blue, Sandstone, Sage Green and Platinum.

Microsoft has also taken care of durability. The laptop’s display lid is made of aluminium, while the bottom panel uses polycarbonate composite resin with glass fibre. Microsoft says 30 per cent of the chassis is made of post-consumer recycled material, making the Surface Go Laptop 2 an eco-friendly buy.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 carries the signature 3:2 aspect ratio screen like the flagship Surface Laptop 4. With the extra vertical space, you can go through web articles, documents and large spreadsheets without having to scroll a lot. Anyone into programming and coding will also find this screen to help with productivity. The laptop’s 12.4-inch screen offers a resolution of 1,536 x 1,024. The screen comes with 99 per cent sRGB support, making the laptop an ideal choice for photographers. It’s also worth mentioning that the Surface Laptop Go 2 has the smallest screen bezels among Surface devices. This should mean less distractions while watching content. With 330 nits of brightness, you can easily watch movies even in a brightly lit room without the display getting washed out.

Despite having a compact and light form factor, the Surface Laptop Go 2 comes with most ports required for everyday use. It has a USB Type-A port on the right for connecting an external storage drive or peripherals like a keyboard and mouse. There is also a Type-C port for ultra-fast data transfer. You can use this port to connect an external display.

Microsoft has also included the Surface Connect port for charging the device. The device ships with a 39-Watt Surface Connect charger, but since it supports Type-C charging, you can use your smartphone’s charger to power the device as well. This feature comes in handy, especially when you are travelling. A 3.5mm audio jack is present for connecting wired headphones. The laptop also has an HD web camera with dual far-field Studio Mics for delivering a solid video calling experience.

On the wireless side, the laptop uses the latest Bluetooth 5.1. The newer standard should help with battery life and the quality of wireless audio connections. There is also Wi-Fi 6 on board, so you can seamlessly stream videos without experiencing stuttering and lags.

Older Surface Go laptops had slightly underpowered processors that restricted them from running heavy applications. However, the new Surface Laptop Go 2 laptop changes this. It comes with the Intel Core i5-1135G7 CPU that can deliver speeds up to 4.20 GHz. This means the laptop can now smoothly run productive apps like Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint and a lot more. There is also a significant improvement in the graphics performance.

The Surface Laptop Go 2’s integrated Intel Iris X GPU offers enough power to run entry-level games on this device. It will also make running photo editing tools like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom smoother. Microsoft says the GPU now supports up to four external displays. The Surface Laptop Go 2 is the first device in Microsoft’s line-up to offer Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 support. This dedicated chip is designed to protect users’ sensitive information.

The laptop runs on Windows 11 Home. It is available in two configurations, the base variant with 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The top-tier variant has 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. You can also swap the solid-state drive in the in future for storage expansions. Microsoft claims the device offers up to 13.5 hours of battery life which is very impressive for a compact laptop.

The Surface Laptop Go 2 has an outstanding keyboard. The keys provide 1.3 mm travel for a comfortable typing experience. There is also a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button, allowing easy sign-in with Windows Hello feature. The trackpad is also large despite the laptop’s compact size. It lets you scroll quickly through large spreadsheets and web articles.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 is a compact powerful machine for students and office goers. Its internals ensures the device handles most productivity and media creation software without hiccups. It is also better constructed than most laptops in this segment. Prices for the base variant starts from Rs. 71,990*, and it is now available at www.reliancedigital.in.
