Google is now entering it with the Pixel Buds A-Series after having launched the Pixel Buds 2 a year back, which unfortunately wasn’t sold in India. The Google Pixel Buds A-Series are 20 per cent smaller and lighter than the Pixel Buds 2. They don’t stick out of your ears like other earbuds, keeping away unwanted attention. The device has a stabiliser fin for a snug fit. It ensures the earbuds stay anchored to your ears even if you were to do intensive workouts. Three sizes of silicone tips are supplied so you can find a personalised fit. Google says the tips are made of softer material to ensure comfort during long music-listening sessions. They also provide passive noise reduction.
The earbuds come with a small vent for regulating air pressure inside the ear. They come with an IP4X water-resistant rating, so you can wear them even while running or cycling in the rain. The charging case is also designed neatly. It has a smooth, soft-touch finish, and its pebble-shaped design fits perfectly into pockets. It houses a single button on the back for manual pairing and a USB-C port at the bottom. Google says they have also redesigned the lid to make it more durable. The interior magnets are stronger to hold the earbuds in place.
The case is made of recycled plastic, so it is eco-friendly too. The Google Pixel Buds A-Series promise up to 5 hours of listening time. Google says a 15-minute of charge can enable three hours of music listening time.
The Google Pixel Buds A-Series come with built-in touch controls. A single tap plays or pauses the music, while a double-tap skips the track. You can also hold the touch to activate Google Assistant when paired with an Android device. It is also possible to summon Google Assistant using the ‘Hey Google’ wake words. Google Assistant integration makes life a lot simpler. It read out your messages, and lets you respond to them without touching your phone. You can also use Google Assistant to set reminders, play tracks, check the weather and even control your smart home devices.
The Google Pixel Buds A-Series also supports the Real-time Translation feature like the expensive predecessor. It works with the Google Translation app that can come handy, when travelling abroad. Google has introduced a new Adaptive Sound feature that automatically adjusts the volume as you move between noisy and quiet places. The Attention Alert feature also lowers the volume when the earbuds detect emergency sounds like sirens or a crying baby.
Each earbud has a beamforming microphone at the bottom for picking your voice accurately. There is also a noise reduction mic at the top of the earbuds so the other party can hear you clearly. The Pixel Buds A-Series also comes with a wear sensor. It automatically pauses music when you pull the earbuds out.
The Pixel Buds A-Series might be affordable, but Google says they sound as good as their more expensive offerings. They use a custom-designed 12mm dynamic driver that delivers clear and balanced sound. They are good at separating tones which makes them ideal for listening to all kinds of music. The earbuds also have a Bass Boost Mode for bass-lovers.
The earbuds use Bluetooth 5.0 with support for SBC and AAC codecs. Pairing them to Android devices is simple using the Fast Pairing feature. Simply hold the Pixel Buds near your phone and tap Pair on the screen to connect them. Opening the earbud’s case near your phone shows the battery status for both the case and earbuds. The earbuds also support the Google Pixel Buds app. It lets you toggle with settings, modes, and you can even use it to locate your earbuds.
The Pixel Buds A-Series are affordable but they include everything that was good in the Pixel Buds 2.
