LG is among the first brands that comes to mind when buying an OLED TV. For a long time, its C-series line-up have secured the crown for the best OLED experience. LG is taking things further with the all-new EVO OLED panels. These panels aren’t just a marketing gimmick. They use an additional layer of an emissive material for better brightness, contrast and a wider colour range. The LG G1 OLED TVs are the first to use them, and they take the flagship spot of LG’s OLED TV line-up.

The LG G1 aims to set a new standard for OLED TVs. It uses the next-generation EVO OLED panel that delivers better luminosity and punchy images with remarkable clarity. LG says the new panel combined with the computational power of the Alpha 9 Gen 4 processor take the viewing experience to a whole new level. The TV’s deep learning algothirm recognises content, removes noise, and delivers perfect blacks and realistic colours without sacrificing details. LG’s OLED Motion Pro Advanced feature also reduces motion blur to deliver smoother action and a clear viewing experience.

The TV also supports Dolby Vision IQ that intelligently adjusts picture settings based on the genre of the content and ambient surroundings. You can choose the LG G1 in three screen sizes. The entry-level variant comes with a 55-inch and a 65-inch screen, while the top-end variant has a large 77-inch screen. These are all 4K TVs running a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160.

Gaming on an OLED TV is every gamer’s dream. The LG G1 meets the latest HDMI 2.1 specification allowing 4K gaming at 120Hz. The TV also supports 1ms response time with support for advanced gaming features such as VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode). These features result in a synchronised and smoother gaming experience. The new Game Optimiser mode puts all the game settings in one place. You can easily change the screen refresh rate, toggle between NVIDIA’s G-Sync and AMD FreeSync, even change colour profiles to match different game genres.

Most OLED TVs feature a thin display with a protruding component box on the back. However, the LG G1 is different. Its uniform frame-like chassis is only 2cm thick, and it even accommodates its speakers. The rear also has cut-outs for concealing the cables. LG recommends wall-mounting the TV with its proprietary bracket, which comes in the box. Its frame-like design blends neatly with interiors, and you can also use the TV to display digitised artwork. You can place the TV on flat surfaces using LG’s L-shaped feet, which is sold separately.

The LG G1 comes with a new version of Magic Remote. LG says the new remote is significantly slimmer than the previous models and feels much better in hands. The buttons are well-spaced with shortcuts for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. The remote also retains its quick spin dial from previous models for easy navigation.

The LG G1 OLED TV has all the latest ports. There are 4 HDMI 2.1 ports, all supporting 4K at 120Hz. Three USB ports are also present for multimedia playback and recording and storing live TV content in external drives. For seamless 4K streaming, the TV comes with Wi-Fi 6, and there is also a LAN port for wired internet connectivity.

The LG G1 OLED TV runs on LG’s latest WebOS 6.1 that has a revamped interface. The new home screen streamlines content and even offer personalised suggestions. It supports Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so you can open apps and even control smart home devices using voice commands. All major streaming apps such as Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, YouTube, and SonyLIV are present. You can also watch your favourite streamers on Twitch.

Most TVs with super-slim designs often restrict them from housing a good speaker setup, but this isn’t the case with the LG G1 OLED TV. It sports 60W speakers that claim to deliver crisp and clear sound without affecting details. It supports LG’s AI Sound Pro feature that optimises voices, effects, and frequencies for a more immersive audio experience. LG says the new Auto Volume Levelling feature also normalizes voice volumes across all kinds of content.

The LG G1 is an absolutely top-notch OLED TV. Its EVO panel is way brighter and produces deeper blacks and better contrast than older OLED screens. The TV’s high-end picture quality, gaming-oriented features combined with its incredibly thin design gives it a significant edge over its competitors.
