The mid-range laptop segment has undergone a revolution over the past few years. Laptops meant for basic tasks now can run high-end games. One of the latest examples of this is the new HP Pavilion 14 2021. The Pavilion series is popular among students and office goers for their subtle aesthetics. The new model has the same charisma as its predecessors, but with a powerful configuration. Let’s see how the new laptop stands in a crowded mid-range laptops market.

The HP Pavilion 14 is undoubtedly a premium-looking device. Its aluminium body and Frosted Silver colour that are both, elegant and durable. The matte texture helps keep fingerprints and smudges away. It is also lighter than its predecessors weighing just 1.4kg, meaning you can carry it in around easily. You can also easily slip the device into a backpack because of its slim and portable nature.

Most slim laptops skimp out on connectivity ports, but luckily this one doesn’t. It has two USB 3.0 ports for external storage devices and other peripherals. A Type-C port with power delivery support is also present. It offers fast data transfer speeds, and you can also use it to setup a multi-display arrangement. You also get an HDMI 2.0 connection for connecting a projector, a monitor or TV. The laptop also has a micro SD card reader, a 3.5mm auxiliary jack and Bluetooth 5.2 support.

The laptop connects to the internet using Wi-Fi 6. For video calls, it has an HD camera with HP’s noise-cancelling technology. The laptop’s Bang & Olufsen speakers promise crisp audio even at high volumes. They support HP’s Audio Boost feature for balancing sound output and clarity while enhancing bass.

The laptop’s new internals take its performance to a whole new level. It is equipped with AMD’s Ryzen 5500U 6-core CPU, delivering speeds up to 4 GHz. HP lets you choose between two models. The entry-spec version (EC00035AU) has 8 GB of RAM and comes with the AMD Radeon integrated graphics solution. These specs are good enough for running everyday tasks like web browsing, watching movies, and using tools like Microsoft Office. You can also use it for programming, and a full-time workstation.

The higher-end variant (EC0000AX) would be ideal for users who need better graphics capability. It packs in 16GB of RAM along with an NVIDIA GeForce MX450 graphics card. This combination makes the device way powerful than most mid-range laptops. You can multitask seamlessly and also play some old AAA games in high graphics settings. Having a dedicated graphics card also improves performance while using photo and video editing tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Premiere Pro.

Both models come with a 512GB NVMe M.2 SSD. HP says the Pavilion 14 offers up to 9 hours of battery life with its 43Wh battery. The laptop ships with a 65W charger that takes nearly 2 hours for a full charge.

The laptop has a 14-inch full HD display. HP says its colour accuracy is ideal for content binging and using colour correction tools. The screen’s 16:9 aspect ratio also makes working a pleasant experience. You get more room for placing documents, web pages and spreadsheets side-by-side. Its 250 nits of brightness makes the screen bright enough to be viewed outdoors.

The Pavilion 14 comes with a well spaced-out keyboard despite its compact size. HP says the large keys prevent typos. The keys are backlit too, which means you can type or game even in the dark. Like previous Pavilion models, the laptop also has a dedicated fingerprint reader that lets you quickly unlock the device, helping with security. The trackpad on the new laptop is also larger than older models. Its glass surface makes gliding fingers easy and allows you to have a better multitasking experience.

The HP Pavilion 14 2021 is an excellent work and play powerhouse. It is great for students and office users who do lots of video calls, web browsing, document editing and designing. The higher-end model’s dedicated graphics solution also lets you play some games, bringing the best of both worlds.
