Gaming laptops have traditionally been bulky. Thanks to next-generation processors and efficient cooling solutions, they are turned surprisingly slim and lightweight lately. Many manufacturers are racing to make gaming laptops even thinner by introducing compact variants to their larger 15 and 17-inch models. One such laptop is the new Dell Alienware X14. The Dell Alienware line-up undoubtedly has a dominant presence in the gaming laptop segment. The newly launched X14 takes its inspiration from bigger Alienware M15 and M17 laptops, but in the process of size-shrinking, were there any compromises made? Let’s find out.

The Dell X14 steers clear of the generic designs found on most gaming laptops these days. It adheres to its branding by offering an alien ship-like design which looks futuristic from every angle. Its Lunar Light paint scheme looks stunning and comes with a high-endurance coating for exceptional stain resistance. Every inch of the machine is crafted using a combination of aluminium, magnesium-alloy and stainless steel parts for durability.

The laptop has a thickness of 14 mm, which makes it as slim as Dell’s ultrabook laptops. Weighing about 1.79 kg, it is also the lightest in this segment. The power brick of this laptop is also compact, so there’s no space for criticism here. Moving this machine from one place to another is no hassle. You can also toss it into a backpack or a sling bag and commute without straining your back.

The laptop has all the gaming-essential ports. They are cleverly placed at the back, so they don’t disturb your mouse. You get a pair of the latest USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports along with a Thunderbolt 3 port for fast data transferring speeds. These ports can also be used to charge the device and connect external monitors. You also get a USB-A 3.2 port for connecting traditional hard drives, pen drives or external peripherals. Dell has also included an HDMI, a microSD card slot and a headphone jack to make Alienware X14 a complete package.

Despite the downsizing, the laptop has a neatly spaced keyboard with large keys offering 1.2mm travel. The keyboard has backlighting, whose effects are customizable using the Dell Command Center app. The trackpad of the device is also accurate and large enough for everyday use.

The Dell Alienware X14 is a 14-inch laptop with a full HD display (1920 x 1080). It supports NVIDIA’s latest Advance Optimus feature that allows the display to dynamically switch between two graphics solutions. Dell says this improves gaming performance and battery life during everyday usage. The display also supports the NVIDIA G-Sync feature that helps ensure tear-free gaming. There is also support for a 144 Hz refresh rate, making gaming a smooth experience.

The panel is also Dolby Vision-certified, which further improves the colour depth and quality, ensuring you can comfortably work or watch content in brightly-lit environments. The display also supports ComfortView Plus, a hardware-based low blue light filter that reduces eye strain without degrading the image quality.

The Dell Alienware X14 runs on the latest 12th-generation Intel Core i5-12500H CPU. It is a 12-core processor with 16 threads, delivering max speeds of up to 4.5 GHz. This is one of the most powerful processors of 2022, which means you can run high-end applications without any performance hiccups. The CPU is paired with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 GPU, capable of smoothly running the latest AAA titles like Rogue Nation, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Ghostrunner, and Elden Ring.

This CPU and GPU combination is also ideal if you work on photo, video and 3D modelling tools. The device houses Dell’s Cryotech Cooling Technology that maintains intensive performance and reduces internal temperatures using independently controlled fans and a unique CPU vapour chamber. The device has 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM for all your multitasking needs. It ships with a 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD drive for storage, but Dell has also provided an additional SSD slot for storage expansion. The Dell Alienware X14 has Wi-Fi 6 for wireless network connectivity, and you also find the latest generation Bluetooth 5.2 for wireless peripherals.

For video calls or recording yourself during gameplay, the laptop houses an HD web camera at the top of the display. The Alienware X14 features an 80 WHr lithium-ion battery. You can use its 130 W adaptor for fast charging, but since it uses a Type-C power input, you can even use your phone’s charger or a power bank to charge the laptop.

The Dell Alienware X14 is an ideal machine for every power user. It can run AAA games as well as high-end creativity and productivity applications without any issues. Its latest and powerful internals can cope-up with future software updates easily, making the X14 a solid long-term usage laptop. Priced at Rs. 1,60,999*, the X14 is now available at www.reliancedigital.in. You can also have a hands-on experience of this device at your nearest Reliance Digital store.
