Nothing is more painful than watching your phone drop from a height and break into pieces. That should explain the high demand for screen guards and tempered glass to protect phone screens. They can protect the screen to some extent but what can? There is a company called Corning that makes a product called Gorilla Glass that can. Quite a few phones these days come with this durable and scratch-resistant screen. Gorilla Glass is all – thin, scratch and damage resistant. Of course, there are different versions of Gorilla Glass available that offer slightly better reliability than others. We tell you what makes them different and even show you what people have tried to test their Gorilla Glass devices. We do recommend trying this out on your phone. User discretion is required!

Corning Gorilla Glass 3

Thickness: 0.4 mm - 2.0 mm

The Gorilla Glass 3 with Native Damage Resistance (NDR) technology was announced back in 2013. The glass is a thin sheet of alkali-aluminosilicate that makes the glass tougher and scratch resistant. With the improved damage resistance, the glass can survive pressures, deep cuts and scratches. According to Corning, the Glass 3 is three times better than its previous versions. Here are some phones using Gorilla Glass 3.

Corning Gorilla Glass 4

Thickness: 0.4 mm - 1.0 mm

According to Corning's research, they addressed a common problem of screen getting damaged when dropped from a height. This is why Corning designed the Gorilla Glass 4 to be drop resistant. That means if you drop your phone on a rough surface, the glass can survive up to 80 per cent of the time. In terms of design, the Glass 4 is thinner and lighter than previous versions and is two times better than any other standard glass designs. Here are some phones that use Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

Corning Gorilla Glass 5

Thickness 0.4mm – 1.3mm

The Corning Gorilla Glass 5 is the newer version. It is designed to survive drops of up to 1.6 meters on hard and rough surfaces. This thin glass is thin in design, but far more damage resistance than previous versions. Corning claims it be four times stronger than the traditional glass designs. Here are some phones featuring Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
