We have seen mid-range phones get better as time passes. Great cameras, quick refresh screens and even blistering fast performance are things you can expect. However, fast charging has far from ideal, with models still shipping with chargers that can take hours to charge a phone fully. The newly launched Xioami 11i Hypercharge aims to change this. It is the first phone to ship with charging tech capable of delivering a full charge in just 15 minutes. Is this tech enough to make Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge a worthy mid-range contender? Let’s find out.

The Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge houses a 4,500 mAh battery. It ships with a 120W fast charger at no extra cost. It is good to see Xiaomi including a fast charger, as with other manufacturers, you often have to purchase them separately. The phone has 9 sensors for monitoring the battery’s temperature in real-time. Xiaomi says the device can retain up to 80 per cent battery capacity even after 800 charge-discharge cycles. This is a battery that will last.

The device has an incredibly slim design and weighs 203 grams despite the large-capacity battery. This premium design also comes with solid durability. The phone offers an IP53 rating for protection against dust and water. There is Gorilla Glass 5 on the front to prevent damage from accidentals falls and scratches. The rear uses an AG Glass, treated with a matte finish to keep smudges away. The side-placed fingerprint sensor is built into the power button and is easy to reach. You can also double-tap it to perform actions or take screenshots. The device is available in five colours – Camo Green, Stealth Black, Purple Mist, and Pacific Pearl.

The Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge features a 6.67-inch display, offering a full HD+ resolution of 2500 x 1080. Like flagship Xiaomi phones, it sports an AMOLED panel for delivering true blacks, better contrast, and wide colours. Xiaomi says the panel produces up to 1,200 nits of peak brightness, which is higher than any other mid-range phone so the screen is legible even under bright daylight. The display supports a 120 Hz refresh rate for a smoother screen experience. It also has a 360 Hz touch sampling rate for instant and accurate touch response.

The display comes with HDR10 and Widevine L1 certification, so you can stream HDR content on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube. Xiaomi says the screen bezels and the punch hole camera are also smaller than previous generation phones.

The Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge runs on MediaTek’s latest mid-range CPU, the Dimensity 920. The phone is available in two configurations. The base model comes with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, while the top-tier model comes with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB storage. You can also add a microSD card in the phone’s hybrid SIM slot for storage expansion. Xiaomi says the 11i Hypercharge can handle day-to-day apps, web browsing and multitasking without any stuttering. It runs on MIUI 12 on top of Android 12. The new UI is said to be smoother, it introduces fluid animations and a new Control Centre. Additionally, it also brings a new Floating Window feature that makes multitasking better.

The phone uses Xiaomi’s Vapour Cooling technology to keep the phone cool under heavy usage. This means you can comfortably play high-end games like Call of Duty: Mobile, Battlegrounds India, Fortnite and Asphalt 9: Airborne. On the wireless front, the phone has Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. You also get an infrared sensor that comes in handy to control home appliances. The IR blaster is a rare feature in phones these days, and it is good to see it on this device.

The Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge come with a triple-camera configuration. The primary 108 MP camera uses Samsung’s HM2 sensor that we have previously seen on Xiaomi’s older high-end phones. This camera is capable of recording 4K videos at 30 fps. It also supports the Dual Native ISO technology that extends the dynamic range and reduces noise for better low-light photography. The secondary 8 MP camera offers a 120-degree field-of-view while the third camera, running a 2 MP macro sensor takes close-up shots. Like premium Xiaomi phones, the 11i Hypercharge has a Pro Mode for taking manual control over camera settings. You will also find a VLOG mode with pre-sets, so you can quickly create short videos. The phone comes with a 16 MP front camera that can record full HD videos.

The Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge is a perfect mid-range device for those who don’t like waiting for a full charge. Apart from the fast-charging tech, the phone’s excellent design, large screen, and powerful internals give it a solid edge over most mid-range phones out there. The phone is priced at Rs. 26,999* and is now available at your nearest Reliance Digital store.
