Building a good mid-range phone can be a challenging task these days. The competition has been fierce, and brands have been trying hard to make their phones stand out. The new entrant in this race is the all-new Vivo V29. Vivo’s V series smartphones are largely known due to their premium and elegant-looking designs. They have been the perfect offering for those who wanted stylish phones at an accessible price tag. But, this time, Vivo has also emphasized the camera and performance with a hope to make this device a solid mid-range device. But are these enough to make this phone stand out in this strong mid-range game? Let’s find out.

The Vivo V29 takes a lot of design cues from its predecessor. It has a curved front and back glass design, which makes the phone comfortable to hold in the hands. The camera module is now smaller and blends in seamlessly with the phone’s frame. The phone has undoubtedly one of the nicest finishes in the mid-range segment. The Himalayan Blue variant is said to take its inspiration from mountains and features magnetic particles that reflect light. If you want a smooth gradient finish, the Majestic Red variant should suit your needs. The phone also comes in a Noble Black variant for those who prefer simple designs.

The phone uses a Fluorite AG Glass at the back to improve its durability. The device is also IP68 dust and water-resistant, so that you can use it with dirty hands or in the rain without any worries. The device is just 7.5mm thick and weighs only 176 grams. It also ships with a TPU clear case for added protection.

The Vivo V29 also excels in the display department. It features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. A higher refresh rate panel makes gaming, video binging, and web surfing a smooth experience. The display also supports HDR10+ playback, so you can enjoy watching HDR content from supported streaming platforms. Vivo has also included an eye care mode the reduces the effects of blue light. It also has an under-display fingerprint reader for unlocking the device.

The Vivo V29 is also one of the most powerful phones in its segment. It runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset, handling multitasking, high-end apps, and games smoothly. The phone is available in two configurations. The base model has 8 GB of RAM and options for 128 GB or 256GB storage. The higher-end model has 12 GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. All models use UFS 2.1 storage type, making transferring data quick and easy. The phone runs Android 13 and uses Vivo’s FunTouch OS 13. The UI has been designed to give a clean user interface, with new multi-tasking window gestures, themes, and animations. Vivo says the device will receive two years of major Android updates and 4 years of security patches.

The phone also excels on the connectivity side. It is a 5G device with additional eSIM support with an option to save multiple eSIMs. It also has Bluetooth 5.2 supporting A2DP, aptX HD, and aptX Adaptive codes for seamless audio connectivity. There is also NFC for tap payments and quick connectivity with accessories.

Cameras have always been Vivo V series stand-out feature, and the V29 is no different. The phone has a 50MP primary camera using the Sony IMX663 sensor. The camera promises crisp image quality with ample details and sharpness. This camera has OIS and can record up to 4K videos at 30 fps. Vivo says this 50MP unit also supports a dedicated Night Mode, which delivers clear, natural-looking low-light images.

The phone’s secondary 8MP lens offers an ultra-wide field of view and is perfect for clicking landscape photos. There is also a 2MP monochrome sensor for depth effect. The flash design is also interesting on this phone. Vivo’s Aura Ring Light, which claims to give a soft light effect usually found in professional setups. This should allow users to click professional-grade portrait images.

Despite having a thin profile, the Vivo V29 houses a 4,600 mAh battery, the largest in its segment. This means the device should last a day with heavy usage without issues. The phone ships with an 80W charger, and Vivo says it can charge from 1 to 50 per cent in just 17 minutes.

The Vivo V29 is one of the strongest contenders in the mid-range segment. The device looks impressive, has enough power, and has a strong battery life to keep things running smoothly. However, the biggest improvement has to be the cameras, which offer nearly pro-grade performance at an accessible price. The phone is now available at your nearest Reliance Digital store.
