The Samsung A30 was one of 2019’s popular mid-range smartphones. It was a well-configured device at an affordable price, and this combination made it an instant hit. The phone had a simple design and it looked like every other mid-range smartphone. However, today’s mid-range phones are designed to look premium and so Samsung has replaced the A30, with the A31. The new phone uses the Infinity-U design that resembles premium Galaxy devices. It also features an updated processor, display and a quad-camera setup at an affordable price. Let’s look at what the A31 offers.

The Samsung A31 comes with a water-drop notch, that offers a widescreen experience without making the device taller or wider. The back panel comes with a Prism design, that changes colour depending on the angle you look at it. The phone is made of plastic, but it promises sturdiness. The device weighs 185 grams, making it slightly heavier than the previous A30. The screen comes with Gorilla Glass 5 that protects it from scratches. The device is available in Prism Black, Prism Blue and Prism White colours. The phone has an in-display fingerprint reader, that lets you unlock the phone, purchase apps, and make payments. It also features Samsung’s AI detection, to unlock the device.

The Samsung A31 comes with a 6.4-inch Super-AMOLED display, that runs a screen resolution of 1080 x 2400. The Super-AMOLED technology uses organic carbon-based materials to generate light. These displays don’t require backlighting like LCD panels, so they produce remarkable images with deep blacks and high contrasts. This means, the Samsung A31’s display will deliver accurate colors along with wide viewing angles. The A31 has an 85 per cent screen-to-body ratio, making the screen nearly edgeless. This should make the device a great choice for content bingers. The display also supports HDR10, so you can enjoy watching HDR content from Netflix and other online streaming services. The phone also comes with an Always-on feature that lets you view dates, weather alerts, and incoming notifications at a glance.

The Samsung A31 is available in two configurations. The entry-spec variant comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The high-spec variant sports 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Both models support microSD cards that let you expand the storage up to 512GB. The phone is powered by MediaTek Helio P65 processor, that claims to offer 25 per cent faster performance than its predecessor. The device also features a Mali-G52 GPU, that promises to handle most casual games along with high-end games such as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG: Mobile) with ease.

The Samsung A31 runs on the latest Android 10 OS and uses Samsung’s OneUI 2.0. The new UI is designed to look like stock Android, which means a simplistic design and an easy-to-use interface. Samsung has redesigned the notifications window, to reduce interruptions while watching full-screen videos and playing games. The UI also has a Dark mode that reduces eye strain. It supports Android 10 gestures, which makes navigating through apps and menus easier. The UI also lets you customise the phone to your liking using icons packs, themes, and various transitions effects.

The Samsung A31 comes with a quad-camera configuration at the rear. The primary camera is a 48MP unit while the secondary camera is an 8MP ultra wide-angle unit. The ultra-wide camera offers 123 degrees of field-of-view making the A31 an ideal choice for landscape photography. The A31 also has a 5MP macro camera, for clicking close-up pictures. The list of rear cameras ends with a 5MP depth-sensor unit, that lets you click DSLR-like bokeh pictures.

The Samsung A31 comes with a massive 20MP selfie camera. This camera offers a wider field-of-view which is great while clicking group selfies. The camera app comes with features such as HDR mode, Live photo mode, and AI detection. It also features a Pro Mode that lets you tweak aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and exposure to click professional photos. Both the front and rear cameras record full HD videos up to 30 fps.

The Samsung A31 is advanced on the connectivity front. It is a dual-SIM LTE device, and it comes with Wi-Fi 802.11ac for seamless wireless connectivity. The phone also features Bluetooth 5.0 that offers improved speeds and wider range than older generations of Bluetooth. It also allows to you play audio on two connected devices at once. The device also supports NFC, so you can pair NFC-enabled devices and make payments with ease. The Samsung A31 sports a massive 5,000 mAh battery that should power the device for a day or more under moderate usage. The phone also supports 15W fast charging.

Today’s mid-range smartphones are designed elegantly and the Samsung A31 is an example of it. The phone packs all the bells and whistles such as a powerful processor, a great screen and a quad-camera setup that clicks great pictures. All these features clubbed with Samsung’s reliability is a great deal for Rs. 21,999*.
