We know OnePlus makes some of the best value-for-money smartphones. They introduced some of the best-looking smartphone designs that placed their devices higher than the regular Android phones. OnePlus is now taking things to new heights by entering the foldable smartphone segment. For a long time, this segment has been dominated by only a few players, but the OnePlus Open could just end this dominance. The new phone is well-designed, slimmer and more durable than the competition. But can it stand up to established competition?

OnePlus’ design game seems stronger than any other foldable out there. The phone is slim and provides great grip along with outstanding build quality. OnePlus says the device is made of proprietary cobalt molybdenum alloy and titanium alloy. This aero-space grade alloy is stronger than stainless steel, yet lighter and durable. The frame is flat, thin and has a matte finish.

The thin and light hinge on the phone is another durability feature OnePlus boasts about. It uses a mix of titanium alloy and carbon parts which are four times stronger than surgical-grade stainless steel. It has fewer parts than its competitor which makes it durable and lightweight. Although the OnePlus Open is a foldable device, it still offers flagship-class features such as a tactile and robust alert slider. The fingerprint sensor is also neatly embedded within the power button, making unlocking easy.

The external display is protected by a new kind of glass called Ceramic Guard. This is a proprietary solution with ceramic crystals that is said to be 20 per cent more impact-resistant than Gorilla Glass Victus. The device is available in two colours. The Voyager Black version comes with a Black Vegan leather finish providing a comfortable grip. The Emerald Dusk variant has a matte glass back and finger-print resistant design. The OnePlus Open is IPX4-rated for splash resistance, so you can use it in the rain without any issues.

The OnePlus Open is a strong contender on the camera front. It comes with a triple camera setup, with a primary camera boasting of a 48MP f/1.7 aperture sensor. The secondary 64MP camera is a telephoto lens offering 3X optical zoom. The third camera is also a 48MP unit offering an ultra-wide 114-degree field of view. OnePlus says the cameras come with a Hasselblad Colour Calibration feature, so you get excellent details and natural colours.

The OnePlus Open is also a powerful foldable device, running the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with enough performance to handle high-end apps and games. OnePlus says the CPU is also Ray Tracing enabled, which means you can expect top-notch gaming performance. The phone comes with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM which means you can easily have multiple apps running smoothly at all times. For storage, the phone comes with 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. This new fast storage standard promises quick boot-up times and fast data transfer speeds. To maintain performance consistency, the OnePlus Open comes with a Cross-Channel Conductivity plate ensuring efficient heat dissipation.

The phone runs Android 13 OS and uses OxygenOS 13.2. OnePlus says this version of Oxygen OS has been specially tuned for the Open and offers some of the most intuitive multitasking features. There will be four generations of OS updates and five years of security updates for the OnePlus Open. OnePlus Open has also passed TUV SUD’s 48-month Fluency Test with an A rating, which means it should remain fluid for four years.

The OnePlus Open is a 5G device with Wi-Fi 6e connectivity. Additionally, it has Bluetooth 5.3 with A2DP, LE, and AptX HD codecs. The phone also has an IR blaster on the top, a feature missing from flagship phones. OnePlus Open comes with a 4,805 mAh battery which promises strong battery life. The device ships with a 67W Fast Charger that promises 1 to 100 per cent charge in just 42 minutes.

The OnePlus Open is one of the best folding phones out there. It is slim, durable and comes with all the flagship features, including an impressive set of cameras, powerful hardware, and long-lasting battery life. All of this is backed up by an excellent OLED display, which makes the OnePlus Open a strong contender in the foldable game. The device is now available for pre-order at www.reliancedigital.in.
