There is no denying the fact that OnePlus knows a thing or two about making great smartphones. Their devices use cutting-edge processors and performance hardware but one area where OnePlus smartphones has lacked is cameras. They have been good but nothing extraordinary. OnePlus plans to change this with its three-year partnership with the well-known camera brand Hasselblad. The new OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are the first results of their collaboration. So great cameras plus powerful hardware, OnePlus says you have it all. Let’s get into details.

Both phones use 48MP primary cameras, but there is a small catch. The OnePlus 9 uses a Sony IMX IMX689 sensor, previously seen on the OnePlus 8 Pro. However, this time around the camera has been tweaked by Hasselblad, resulting in more vibrant and true-to-life colours. The OnePlus 9 Pro is unquestionably ideal for professional-grade photography. It has the newest Sony IMX789 sensor, and OnePlus says it delivers incredible dynamic range, faster auto-focus and better details in pictures.

The ultra-wide and telephoto lens on both phones are similar. The 50MP lens has a large f/1.6 aperture which makes it great for night photography. The 8MP telephoto brings things closer with its 3X optical zoom and 30X digital zoom. OnePlus has also introduced a 2MP monochrome camera on both devices that is designed to assist in monochrome photography. The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro can also record 8K videos at 30 fps. The 9 Pro also has OIS, making it ideal for vlogging and cinematic videos. Both devices have 16MP wide selfie cameras that can capture a large group in a frame.

The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro use Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888 CPU, so it’s perfect for intense gaming. The CPU’s performance makes every tasks a cakewalk. Both devices are available in two variants – 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM with 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. There is an Adreno 660 GPU on both devices, which means you can enjoy playing modern games at the highest graphic setting. The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro runs on Oxygen OS 11 atop of Android 11. This means there’s a clean UI along with a set of signature features such as always-on display, themes, Zen mode, Pro Gaming mode and more.

The OnePlus 9 has a 6.55-inch display, while the 9 Pro comes with a slightly bigger 6.7-inch display. They use AMOLED panels, so you can expect excellent dynamic range, deep blacks, sharpness and vibrancy. OnePlus was one of the first smartphone brands to bring in the high refresh rate trend, and the new OnePlus 9 Pro take things a step further by offering a Smart 120Hz refresh rate. It uses an LTPO panel where the display can automatically adjust its refresh rate to save power. For example, games will run at 120Hz, movies will opt for 24Hz, whereas something like an eBook will go down to 1Hz. OnePlus also lets you customise the viewing experience by changing colour profiles, temperature tone and more. There is also the option to increase the touch response rate to 360Hz for gaming.

The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro looks very similar to their predecessors. They use the same all-glass body for a truly premium look. Both phones have a slim and lightweight design, so they can easily fit in pockets and purses. The OnePlus 9 is being offered in classy Arctic Sky, Astral Black, and Winter Mist colours, while the 9 Pro has a more modern looking Pine Green, Stellar Black and Morning Mist colour scheme. Both phones ship with a clear case to keep them away from fingerprints.

The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are 5G ready devices, and they use Qualcomm’s X60 modem for superfast network speeds. The phones also have Wi-Fi 6 equally quick wireless connectivity at home. Both phones also come with Bluetooth 5.2 with support for audio codecs such as aptX HD and A2DP. The devices also support NFC so you can easily pair supported peripherals and make payments just by a tap. The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro use 4,500mAh batteries which are quite large and should get you through the day even under heavy usage. The real game-changer though are the phones’ charging speeds. Both phones support 65W Wrap charging, and OnePlus claims 1 to 100 per cent charging in 29 minutes. The Pro model also supports 50W wireless fast charging that claims 1 to 100 per cent charging in just 43 minutes.

The new OnePlus devices leave no space for complaints. The phones have all the hardware for blazing-fast performance, and their new cameras make them a complete package.
