OnePlus 11R – Going back to its roots

OnePlus phones are well-known for their value-for-money proposition. Their recent flagships devices have been priced at more than Rs. 50,000, making them inaccessible to many. OnePlus’ solution to this is the new 11R, a phone that could shake up the upper mid-range smartphone segment. This phone is like the premium OnePlus 11 and performs like a powerhouse too. With flagship-grade cameras and solid battery life, this phone aims to be a solid all-rounder. But can this phone stand its ground against already established premium mid-range phones?

Most upper mid-range phones run slightly underpowered versions of flagship CPUs to maintain their aggressive pricing price, but this isn’t the case with the OnePlus 11R. It runs the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU, known for its extraordinary performance and power efficiency. It helps the 11R way sail far ahead of other phones in this segment. If you like playing high-end games without spending a lot, the 11R should be the perfect choice. Its performance is backed by 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, enabling smooth multitasking. OnePlus has also added a RAM-Vita software feature that uses machine learning and AI to accelerate the reallocation of memory while you use the phone.

The phone comes in two storage options. The base model has 128 GB of storage while the top-tier one has 256GB of internal storage. Since the phones use UFS 3.1 storage type, loading apps takes no time, and you can transfer large files in seconds. To keep the internals cool, the phone uses a vapour chamber cooling system. OnePlus says the new system is about 64 per cent larger than the one used on the OnePlus 10 Pro. This ensures the device stays cool under heavy workloads and extended gaming sessions.

The OnePlus 11R also promises a strong battery life with its 5,000 mAh battery which can be charged from 0 to 100 per cent with the 100W SuperVOOC charger. The OnePlus 11R also features a Battery Health Engine that improves charging cycles to extend the battery’s lifespan. OnePlus says the device has 13 independent temperature sensors and a SuperVOOC charge management chip which helps to improve the overall battery performance.

The phone also excels on the connectivity front. It is a dual SIM 5G device, so you can experience next-generation data transfer speeds. There is also Wi-Fi 6 support for wireless internet connectivity. For wireless audio, the phone comes with Bluetooth 5.3 with support for A2DP, LE, and apt-X HD. The phone comes pre-installed with OxygenOS 13, OnePlus’ latest operating system that’s been designed with a streamlined UI. OnePlus promises 3 major OS updates along with four years of security patches, making the OnePlus 11R a future-proof smartphone.

The OnePlus 11R makes no compromises in the camera department. It uses an upgraded Sony IMX890 50 MP primary sensor for clearer and detailed photos. There is also OIS on board, so you get performance and stability simultaneously. The camera offers an f/1.8 aperture, which means you can expect great results in low-light shots too. OnePlus has now added a new TurboRAW HDR photography mode for richer details and colours in low-light settings. The Portrait Mode is now also updated, and it now shoots subjects with more natural colours and improved contrast. The phone can shoot at 4K videos at 30 fps.

The secondary 8 MP camera comes with a 120-degree wide-angle FOV which is amazing for group shots. This camera will also come in handy while shooting landscapes. For close-up shots, OnePlus has also included a 2 MP macro camera with an effective shooting distance of 4 cm. The 11R also promises great selfies with its 16 MP front-facing camera. It supports EIS (Electronic Image Stability) for shake-free selfies and videos.

OnePlus has ensured you get a non-compromised design. The 11R looks nearly identical to the expensive 11 model, and it’s difficult to spot out the differences. It has the same two-sided glass design with curved edges so it’s comfortable to hold. Both glasses use a fingerprint-resistant design, which claims to keep the device clean despite its glossy finish. The phone’s side frame is also a lot like the OnePlus 11 and it comes with OnePlus’ iconic Alert slider which was missing from older models. The ring-shaped camera island is also similar, and it gives the 11R a top-notch look.

The OnePlus 11R comes with a stunning 6.7-inch Fluid AMOLED display. OnePlus says the display comes with an upgraded 450 ppi (pixels per inch) resolution and up to 1,450 nits of peak brightness. This should make watching content outdoors under bright sunlight even more comfortable. It is also has a 10-bit colour depth panel with support for HDR10+, which means you can watch content with the best possible colour accuracy.

The display runs a 120 Hz refresh rate. It uses an Adaptive Dynamic Frame Rate technology which adjusts the refresh rate between 40 Hz to 120Hz to save battery. The display also comes with a HyperTouch Engine feature which enables ultra-low latency and next-level touch accuracy.

The OnePlus 11R barely feels like a toned-down version of the premium OnePlus 11. This phone offers one of the most powerful CPUs for Android phones, and can easily handle heavy tasks and gaming smoothly. It gets the same OnePlus 11-like design with an upgraded camera system, which makes this phone great value for money. Prices for the OnePlus 11R start from Rs. 39,999* and all models are now available at www.reliancedigital.in.
