OnePlus 11 – Bringing back the old charm

OnePlus quickly became every technology enthusiast’s choice for their premium hardware and widely customisable OS experience. Over time, the brand’s popularity grew into the mid-range space with their value-for-money offerings. While these phones were great for everyday users, they weren’t as exciting as the flagship killer ones of the past. Enthusiasts have felt the charm lacking with recent devices, and it looks like it is coming back with the OnePlus 11. This phone claims a fresh start with its redesigned camera system, all-new CPU and a lot more that you find with the big names in the game.

The OnePlus 11 is a 6.7-inch phone, but it should be comfortable in the hands thanks to its lightweight profile. Build quality and premium feel have also been balanced. It has an all-glass front and back along with an aluminium chassis for structural rigidity. It is also IP68 rated, so it can take on dust and accidental water splashes.

OnePlus’ signature Alert Slider is also back on this device. It is available in two colours – an Instant Green colour that has a light diffusive glass offering a subtle yet elegant look. The Endless Black colour has a smooth finish but with a special coating that prevents fingerprints. The camera module is now circular like a lens, and it comes with Hasselblad branding, blending seamlessly with the phone.

The OnePlus 11 runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, the newest and most powerful CPU of 2023. The CPU claims to bring significant performance gains, especially while gaming. The OnePlus 11 will be offered in 8 GB and 12 GB RAM variants. OnePlus says the new LPDDR5X RAM brings a boost of 30 per cent in speed and 20 per cent in energy efficiency over the previous generation. This means you can expect an even smoother multitasking experience.

The OnePlus 11 is also one of the first flagships to use the UFS 4.0 storage standard, bringing huge leaps in read/write speeds. Another noteworthy feature is the new, bigger vibration motor which delivers deeper haptic feedback during typing and gaming. OnePlus says the device remains cool even under heavy gaming with its updated high-performance heat sink. The loudspeakers have also gotten a update too with dual sub-magnets and an NLC low-frequency algorithm, which now promises clearer sound even at max volumes.

The phone runs Android 13 and uses ColourOS 13, which introduces a brand-new UI. OnePlus calls it an Aquamorphic design which changes colours as dawn transitions to dusk. It also brings new fonts and animations. The Always-on display now shows the music player along with live status from supported food delivery apps. OnePlus has partnered with Bitmoji to display new animations on the lock screen.

OnePlus devices have a history of offering excellent display quality, and the OnePlus 11 is no different. The device comes with a 6.7-inch OLED display offering a 1440p resolution for extra crisp details and immersive content viewing. It also features HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, so you can enjoy supported content from popular streaming platforms. This 1440p display also supports a dynamic refresh rate that goes from 1 Hz to 120 Hz with its LTPO 3.0 technology. High refresh rates make the UI noticeably smoother, while the 1 Hz refresh rate option drains less power and is perfect for features like the Always-on display.

The OnePlus 11 sports a Hasselblad camera system which includes a 50 MP primary, 48 MP secondary and a 32 MP camera. The primary camera uses a Sony IMX890 sensor, one of the newest and most powerful sensors of 2023. This camera supports the RAW camera mode to capture true colours and details. The secondary camera offers 115-degree FOV, while the third offers 2X optical zoom.

OnePlus says the phone is capable of capturing 8K videos at 24 fps and 4K videos at 60 fps. It comes with Hasselblad XPAN Mode which offers a 65:24 film-level wide format ratio for video recording. For selfies, the phone has a 16 MP front-facing camera supporting full HD video recording at 60 fps. It also supports HDR, so you get the right balance of colours in selfies.

The OnePlus 11 is a dual-SIM 5G device with support for Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. It also comes with the latest Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC support. The device also promises solid performance with its 5,000 mAH battery. The device ships with a 100W charger which claims a 1 to 50 per cent charger in 10 minutes and a 1 to 100 per cent charge in 25 minutes.

The OnePlus 11 is fully loaded and capable of resurrecting the brand’s old charm. The phone looks more elegant than previous generations and brings the best performance with a solid battery life. The camera setup is also a complete game-changer too, and it can make the OnePlus 11 the preferable choice for pro-camera users. Pricing isn’t out yet, but OnePlus says it is going to be accessible enough to win back the flagship killer tag.
