Mi 5X TV – High-end performance made affordable

Most technology tends to get more expensive every year, but that’s not the case with TVs. Thanks to brands like Xiaomi, even 4K TVs are more affordable than ever. This trend continues with the new Mi 5X series of TVs. This Android-based TV has a long list of features, often limited to expensive flagship TVs. You get everything from superior picture quality to aesthetic design, all in a package that starts just at Rs. 40,999*.

The Xiaomi Mi 5X replaces the very successful Mi 4X TVs from 2020. This year’s models come in three sizes – 43, 50 and 55 inches. They take their design cues from Xiaomi’s flagship QLED TV line-up. These TVs come with an all-around aluminium trim with minimal bezels. Xiaomi says the 43-inch model offers a 95.4 per cent screen-to-body ratio while the 50-inch and 55-inch models offers a 95.9 and 96.6 per cent screen-to-body ratio respectively. These TVs look premium from every angle, and should easily blend in with your home or office interiors. The metallic TV stand also neatly matches the TV’s premium aesthetics. It is also said to be sturdier than before.

The back of the TV also maintains its premium looks with its carbon fibre finish. The device has three HDMI ports of which one supports the ARC feature. All HDMI ports also support ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), a feature that should remove the visual latency seen on large panels. This should result in a responsive gaming experience. You will also find two USB ports that should come in handy while connecting external storage drives such as pen drives or hard drives. The TV comes with an optical input port, so you can easily connect a soundbar or a home theatre system.

All the ports are placed towards the right of the TV, so they are accessible even if you wall mount the TV. For internet connectivity, the device has Wi-Fi 802.11ac and an Ethernet port too.

This 4K TV offers a resolution of 3,840 x 2160. Like the high-end 4K TVs, the Mi 5X supports wide HDR formats, including Dolby Vision and HDR10+. This gives the Mi 5X an edge over other TVs in this price range. Xiaomi says the TV supports 94 per cent DCI P3 colour gamut, which means you can expect a vibrant picture quality. The TV also comes with Xiaomi’s proprietary Vivid Picture Engine 2 technology that upscales full HD content to 4K without losing many details.

The Xiaomi Mi 5X also supports the MEMC (Motion Estimation Motion Compensation) feature, which is rare to find in a TV of this price. This frame interpolation technology allows users to have a blur-free and smooth viewing experience. It comes in handy while watching fast-paced movies and sports events. The TV also supports the Adaptive Brightness feature using a photoelectric sensor. Xiaomi says the new sensor accurately analyses ambient light and automatically adjusts the brightness so you can have a personalised content watching experience.

With top-notch picture quality, the Mi TV 5X also promises a solid audio experience. The 43-inch model has 30W speakers while, the 50-inch and 55-inch models come with 40W speakers. All models support Dolby Atmos, claiming to produce rich and balanced sound for a cinematic experience.

The Mi TV 5X series is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT9611 processor, the same as the Mi QLED TV 4K models. This CPU allows you to have a smooth, responsive and lag-free UI experience. The TV runs on Android 10 and uses Xiaomi’s new PatchWall 4 UI. Xiaomi says the UI is now much more streamlined and supports more than 30 streaming services, including local ones such as Sony Live, Zee5, Voot and Hungama Play. The new update also supports IMDB integration, which lets you check for the ratings before watching a movie. With the new Universal Search feature, you can look for shows and movies across multiple streaming apps under a single search menu.

The PatchWall 4 UI also comes with 75+ free live channels. Xiaomi has also included a Kids Mode that only shows content that is suitable for kids. This means you don’t need to supervise your child every time they watch TV. The Mi TV 5X now also comes with a Dolby Vision tab that brings Dolby Vision content from all the streaming platforms under one menu. The Mi Home app integration also takes the TV experience to a new level. It lets you control all the Mi smart home devices straight from your TV.

Another feature that makes the Mi 5X TV truly smart is the support for Google Assistant. It allows you to open your favourite apps and content using just voice commands. You can also use it to get sports updates and even find restaurants near you. As the TV comes with far-field recognition mics, you can give voice commands while comfortably sitting on your couch. The TV’s smart remote is also slim and very portable. It has dedicated buttons for Google Assistant, Netflix and even Amazon Prime Video.

The Mi 5X TV brings nearly all the features from the more expensive offerings but at a much more affordable price. The device is not only aesthetically pleasing to look at, but it also renders impressive and natural-looking picture quality that will make your entertainment experience more enjoyable. The TV is loaded with tons of smart features and you can also expect many new ones, with Xiaomi’s promise of regular software updates. The Mi 5X TV is now available at www.reliancedigital.in.
