LG C2 – Setting up a new OLED benchmark

Few brands can compete with LG, when it comes to OLED TVs. LG pioneered OLED technology and has been making some of the best OLED TVs for years, with the LG C1 being one such example with its best-in-class features and quality. There have been many attempts to dethrone LG’s C1 OLED line-up, but none have come close. The competition has now gotten even tougher with the launch of the all-new LG C2 OLED TV.

The LG C2 brings major updates in the form of LG’s latest EVO panels that take picture quality to new heights. Improvements also include a new generation CPU powering the TV’s smart features and LG’s new OS. A new razor-thin design has also been introduced to make LG C2 a complete package. While all these upgrades are luring, should you buy one? Read on to find out.

The LG C2 is the brand’s top-of-the-line OLED TV. You can choose between three sizes. The base model comes with a 42-inch screen, while the mid-range model has a 55-inch screen. The top-end variant boasts of a 65-inch screen for the ultimate content experience. All models sport 4K resolutions of 3840 x 2160. The 55-inch and 65-inch variants support LG’s latest Brightness Booster feature to improve the brightness level of the panel. LG says this makes the content clearer in the brightly lit rooms. Since OLEDs use displays with self-emitting lighting and colours, the LG C2 delivers higher levels of contrast levels. The panel also controls the brightness of each pixel individually, allowing the TV to render absolute blacks without the ever-annoying blooming effect around bright areas of the screen.

The LG C2 OLED line-up support LG’s AI Picture Pro feature that uses deep-learning algorithms to recognize the content type, remove noise and optimize the picture quality in real-time. LG has also updated a Tone Mapping feature, which is now called Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro. The updated feature now analyses each area in a frame and automatically adjusts the colours for more realistic HDR results. LG says this feature also enhances the contrast in real-time for clearer details in every scene.

The LG C2 will also likely become a popular choice among high-end gamers. The TV comes with a 120 Hz refresh rate panel for a smooth and realistic gaming experience. With 4 HDMI 2.1 ports, gamers can connect new-generation gaming consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X to experience the best frame rates. These TVs also won’t disappoint PC gamers. With a 0.1ms response time, NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium support, gamers can connect their PC using the HDMI port for ultra-fast and fluid gaming. The TV also supports LG’s Game Optimizer feature that shows active frame rates. This feature also lets you tweak the picture quality based on a game’s genre.

Another major improvement on the LG C2 is its processor. The TV now runs on LG’s a9 Gen 5 processor to improve the TV’s image upscaling performance. The TV now automatically identifies static logos and reduces the brightness in the area to reduce image retention issues. LG has also added a Clear Noise feature that resets the pixels to maintain the image quality.

The LG C2 runs on LG’s latest WebOS 22. The OS offers a smooth and easy-to-use interface, along with widgets. The TV supports Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so you can easily find content using voice commands. The TV comes pre-loaded with major streaming apps like Amazon Prime, Netflix, HBO Max and Apple TV. LG has also added a web browser if you need to surf the internet.

The C2 has 4 HDMI 2.1 ports supporting 4K resolutions at 120 Hz. There are 3 USB ports for connecting pen drives and hard drives. It also has an optical port for connecting sound bars and other sound solutions. There is also support for Wi-Fi 802.11 ac and Bluetooth 5.0, even wired Ethernet.

The LG C2 has a stunningly premium design. Its panel is thinner than even some of the flagship smartphones, so it can easily be a centrepiece of your home. LG has also managed to shrink screen bezels further for a more immersive content viewing experience. LG says the C2 is also significantly lighter due to new composite materials and a newly designed pedestal stand. The back of the panel has a brushed metal finish and clips for better wire management.

If you are looking for the ultimate OLED TV experience, the LG C2 is the device to go with. It brings major improvements over its predecessor, especially with its EVO series panel that offers way better contrast and brightness levels. It also addresses the OLED burn-in and image retention issues, which are often a concern among prospective OLED TV buyers. The TV is also sleeker and brings significant upgrades to the sound department. The LG C2 42-inch TV is priced at Rs. 1,39,990* and all models are available at www.reliancedigital.in.
