Asus Vivobook 16X – A new mid-range chapter

A 15.6-inch screen is a standard display size for most laptops. These laptops can be bulky, heavy and difficult to carry. They can have thick bezels, giving them an old-school look. A lot of brands tried offering 14-inch screens, but that can be a big compromise for many. It seems Asus has the perfect solution. Their new VivoBook 16X has a massive screen, while still being portable. How successfully has Asus pulled off this feat? Let’s find out.

The Asus VivoBook 16X is a performance powerhouse. Its base model (MB511WS) comes with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H CPU, with 6 cores and offering a maximum boost speed of up to 4.2 GHz. This processor is powerful and can handle all heavy workloads without any hiccups. Asus says the CPU is based on AMD’s latest Zen architecture that gets you the perfect balance of battery life and performance.

Asus also offers a Pro variant (M7600) of the Vivobook 16X with AMD’s Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU paired with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3050 Ti GPU. This variant is perfect for gamers who want to play AAA titles like Battlefield V, GTA V, Valorant and Apex Legends. It also makes the device perfect for media professionals. The laptop comes with 16 GB of RAM, which is upgradable up to 32 GB. The device also has a super-fast 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD that enables quick boot times and fast data transfer.

Both variants use Asus’ IceCool thermal technology that uses upgraded heat pipes and an 87-blade fan that accelerates airflow. Asus says the fans use a fluid-dynamics bearing that is quieter, vibrates less and cools the CPU and GPU even in the performance mode without any throttling.

The display is one of the most noteworthy features of the new Asus Vivobook 16X laptops. The 16-inch display has a wide 16:10 aspect ratio with a resolution of 1920 x 1200. The Pro model of this device offers the same aspect ratio, but comes with an OLED panel, elevating content watching the experience to new heights. It’s a VESA-certified HDR display, so you can enjoy HDR content from supported streaming platforms. This panel comes with 100 per cent DCI-P3 support, making it perfect for those who need colour perfection in tools like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.

Gamers can enjoy more realistic-looking gaming due to the OLED display’s deeper black levels. Asus says the display is also TUV Rheinland-certified and emits 70 per cent less blue light reducing strain on the eyes. Both models have minimal screen bezels, so there is less distraction while watching content.

The Asus Vivobook 16X laptops have a simple, yet elegant-looking design. They come in two colours, Quite Blue and Transparent Silver. Both colours look premium and are finished in matte which helps keep the fingerprints away. The laptop is also protected with Asus Antibacterial Guard, a special surface treatment that prevents bacterial growth to reduce the spread of potentially harmful bacteria through contact.

Like other Asus laptops, this one too meets MIL-STD 810H military-grade standards, ensuring a solid construction. The device weighs nearly 1.80 kg, so carrying it around shouldn’t be an issue. The laptop has a strong display lid which lets you fold the display back to 180 degrees.

The laptop comes with Asus tried-and-tested ErgoSense keyboard. This full-sized keyboard has neatly spaced keys, so you can type and play comfortably and accurately. The keys offer a 1.4 mm travel for tactile feedback, while the keys have a dished shape for comfort and grip. The keyboard is backlit too, which means typing in poorly lit places shouldn’t be an issue. The trackpad is also large and comes with a built-in fingerprint sensor supporting Windows Hello, that lets you unlock the laptop just by a touch.

Asus has ensured the laptop comes with all the modern-day connectivity ports. There are two USB Type-A ports for connectivity storage drives or peripherals like a printer. The laptop has two Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, supporting multiple external displays and fast data transfer. Both Type-C ports can also be used to charge the device, which is handy when travelling. The laptop also has an HDMI port, a microSD card and a 3.5 mm audio jack. For gamers, the laptop also houses an RJ45 port if you prefer wired network connectivity. There is also Wi-Fi 6 on board for a seamless wireless internet connection.

The laptop also has an HD web camera with a privacy shutter. It supports Asus’ 3D Noise Reduction Technology which sharpens images and performs real-time de-noising to ensure everything looks crisp and clear during video calls. The laptop also features AI Noise-Cancelling Technology that isolates unwanted background noise for an exceptional video conferencing experience.

The Asus Vivobook 16X series takes the mid-range laptop race to new heights. A 16-inch screen is new for mid-range laptops, but more screen space gives freedom to multitask better while also having an immersive content viewing experience. The Pro model’s OLED screen is outstanding, and both laptops are loaded with new-gen hardware for handling heavy workloads. Prices for the base variant start at Rs. 54,990*, and all models are available at www.reliancedigital.in. For more information, you can also visit your nearest Reliance Digital store.
