The Dell Inspiron series has a classic set of laptops for home and business use. The 5000 and the 7000 series are reasonably priced premium offerings, equipped with a powerful set of hardware and trendy features found on most premium laptops. In our Dell Inspiron 15-inch 7570 laptop review, we look at this elegantly crafted diamond-cut profile laptop, priced at Rs. 79,999*. While Dell puts emphasis on the design, let’s check if the 7570 is also a high-grade performer.

Design and Build

The Dell Inspiron 7570 features a near-premium design. We say this because most premium laptops feature metal chassis, but this laptop has a plastic build with a brushed metallic texture as its exterior. Diamond-cut edges and corners do add a line of elegance to this laptop. On the lid is a mirror-finish Dell logo carved in the center. This lid is connected to the base with a two-sided, wrap-around hinge. It allows the laptop to rest flat at 180 degrees. This is great when you want to work but with the ultimate comfort. The hinge is firm and does not allow the screen to wobble at all.

The screen of the laptop is surrounded with a significantly slim display bezel. This makes the laptop look modern, but it isn’t as thin as on Dell’s XPS models. The keyboard on this laptop is small and looks constrained. There is a lot of space around the keyboard, left unused. Dell could have easily managed to fit a full-fledged keyboard instead. Also, the absence of a dedicated numeric pad was felt, considering its price of Rs. 79,999*. The power button on this keyboard has a small power LED indicator. Below is a large and wide touchpad that has a separator line for left and right clicks.

The connectivity options on the Inspiron 7570 are pretty much standard. Underside the laptop are two heat vents and speaker grills. We noticed that the laptop speaker grills get covered, while using it on the lap. You might need to use the laptop on a flat surface at times. A couple of rubber strips on the underside of the laptop make it sit firmly on flat and slippery surfaces, while elevating it a little for vents to blow out heat from the laptop.

Features

The Dell 7000 series of laptops is a line of premium laptops offering quality features. Our test unit came equipped with an 8th generation Intel Core i5 -8250U processor clocked at 1.8 GHz and 8GB of RAM. The storage is taken care by a 1TB of hard drive and a 128 GB solid state drive (SSD). This is ample to store lots of photos, songs and movies. To keep the graphics performance at par, there is a modest NVIDIA GeForce 940MX discrete graphics solution boost in addition to an on-board Intel HD Graphics 620. All said, the Inspiron 7570 has sufficient power under its hood. We will get to the performance of the laptop a little later in this review.

The Inspiron 7570 is armed with a 15.6-inch screen, sporting a full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. This is a common feature among more expensive models these days and also the highlight of all the Inspiron 7000 series of laptops. The screen is bright, colourful and sharp in detail but it is glossy. This affects viewing angles and creates distracting reflections when working under bright lights. On the top of the screen is a HD webcam for video calling.

The backlit keyboard on this laptop allows you to type comfortably under dimly lit settings. To get things done with comfort, the Dell Inspiron 7570 laptop can lay flat at the 180 degrees. There is also a collection of most demanding connectivity options. The left side of the laptop is occupied with a power connector, a USB 3.1 Type-C, an HDMI port, two USB 3.0 super speed ports and a headphone jack. The right side of the laptop houses a LAN port, one USB Type-C port and a SD card slot. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 802.11ac, also supporting Bluetooth 4.2 to get most of the devices and accessories connected with ease.

Performance

At the price of Rs. 79,999*, the Dell Inspiron 7570 is just right. The full HD screen on this laptop is a highlight and hence we tested it first. We got some sample full HD photos and videos running on the laptop and found the display to be vibrant and sharp. In some photos, the skyline had a good mix of colours and contrast levels. Dark scenes in photos also had good details, but the glossy screen attracts reflections. Unlike the awkward placement of the webcam at the bottom of the screen on the XPS 13 models, Dell has placed it on the top of the screen on the Inspiron 7570. This is an HD webcam, meant for video calling. It supports HDR and can shoot videos at 30 fps in a HD quality settings. It was also very quick in detecting faces.

The Inspiron 7570 is a good package altogether. This laptop has a combination of an integrated Intel HD graphics plus a GeForce 940MX discrete graphics. This is a graphics graphics solution, but it is more powerful than the integrated one. We got to see the performance of this duo in the StreetFighter IV gaming benchmarking test. This benchmark tool from Capcom helps test the gaming capabilities of laptops. The Dell 7570 earned an overall score of 16,363 with an average 157.60 fps on full HD resolutions. This means, the laptop can handle some of the popular gaming titles, but with settings turned down. The Cinebench benchmarking tool managed to get a really good score of 535cb in a CPU test and 66.38 fps as an OpenGL score. This benchmarking test rendering performance in the background. This kind of performance is also a good indicator for encoding and compression performance.

This laptop also performed well in the CrystalDiskMark benchmark test. It scored pretty decent impressive sequential read and write speeds of 467.9 and 220.8 respectively. It’s not the fastest SSD around but it’s a lot faster than laptops running only hard drives. The system boot time was impressive too. It takes eight seconds to shut down and to start the system. The Dell 7570 easily surpassed the Geekbench 4 benchmark with 3,977 in a single-core test and 12,705 in a multi-core scores.

Launching of software and switching between them is really fast. We had two browsers - Chrome and Internet Explorer running at the same time, both loaded with websites. There wasn’t any problem switching between the browsers and also between tabs. Everything seems to be fine, but Dell failed to impress us when it comes to the keyboard layout. Keeping aside the design, we took a typing tutorial on this tiny keyboard and the results were some bad accuracy scores. The keys are placed just too close, which means we kept hitting the wrong keys while typing.

The touchpad on the Dell 7570 is wide and smooth, allowing comfortable tapping and swiping for gestures in Windows 10. The audio quality of this laptop was average. Two speakers located underside the laptop were able to produce clear sound, but they didn’t pump out loud sound. In our testing, we found that the battery performance falls short. The Inspiron 7570 was able to cut through only 3 to 4 hours on continuous browsing, gaming and video playback. It is very usable, and the battery performance may vary depending on the usage, but it surely won’t last for a day at work. It is ideal to keep a charger near.

Verdict

The Inspiron 7570 is a premium offering from Dell with a plenty of power under its hood. Its design is simple but unique from different old-school laptops. The Dell 7570 features an excellent 15.6-inch thin-bezel full HD display that is ideal for browsing, gaming and media consumption. There is future-proofing in the form of ports such as the latest USB 3.1 Type-C and HDMI that makes connectivity simple and ideal for home and office use. This laptop can get most things done, but shorter battery life and smaller keyboard hold it back just a little bit.
