How and when should I clean/replace my Air Purifier’s filters and sensor?

Find out here when and how you should clean or replace the pre-filter, the filters and the quality sensor of your Philips Air Purifier.

Note: All images shown below are generic representations only; there can be some differences among specific appliances.

    When to clean the filters

The filters (A and B in the image above) are not washable nor vacuum cleanable. These filters need to be replaced. Please check your manual to see the replacement indications for your specific purifier model.

    When to replace the filters

When the filters (A and B in the image above) become dirty, they need to be replaced.

Replace the multi-care filter, the activated carbon filter, and the HEPA filter when the respective indicators light up. Please check the user manual since every specific purifier will indicate this in a different way (e.g. some purifiers indicate this with a C7 indicator and other models indicate it with 2 ,3 or 4).

When to clean the air quality sensor

The air quality sensor (D in the image above) should be cleaned every two months.
Please, check the cleaning instructions for your specific Air Purifier in your user manual.
If you use your Philips Air Purifier in a dusty or high humidity environment, then please clean it more frequently.

    When to clean the pre-filter

Your Philips Air Purifier’s pre-filter (C in the image shown above) is washable and should be cleaned every month to ensure its optimal functioning.

You should clean the pre-filter when F0 is displayed on your air purifier’s display.

To clean the pre-filter, please follow these steps:

    1. Switch off the appliance and unplug it from the wall outlet.

    2. Pull the bottom part of the panel (located at the front or at the back of your purifier, depending on your specific model) and remove it from the appliance (see image below).

    3. Press the two clips down and pull the pre-filter towards you.

    4. Wash the pre-filter under a running tap. If the pre-filter is very dirty, use a soft brush to brush away the dust.

    5. Air dry the pre-filter until it is completely dry.

What is the specification CADR in my Philips Air Purifier?

If you would like to know what the specification CADR mentioned in your Philips Air Purifier’s package or leaflet is, read here about it.

    What is CADR?

CADR stands for Clean Air Delivery Rate.
It indicates the volume of filtered air delivered by your Philips Air Purifier. Your Air Purifier will run faster when the amount of particles, tobacco smoke, pollen and dust increases.

What do my Philips Air Purifier’s lights mean ?

If you wonder what the air quality lights or ring lights of your Philips Air Purifier mean, please find out here.

Note: All images shown below are generic representations only; there can be some differences among specific appliances.

Air purifiers with air quality ring lights

You can see the quality of air your Philips Air Purifier is cleaning using the air quality lights (see image below). The different colors indicate the following:

    1. Blue: good.

    2. Blue-violet: fair

    3. Red-Purple: unhealthy

    4. Red: very unhealthy

To check which standard your air purifier uses, see the image below. If the number is 2030 (year 2020 week 30) or higher, the air purifier uses the new Indian standard. If the number is below 2030, for example 1842, it uses the China standard.

Air purifiers with a quality light

In this case, your air purifier indicates the current quality of the air by displaying a red or green light.

In the first few minutes after you select the SmartAir Control function, the air quality indicator will flash red to indicate that the air quality sensor is measuring the ambient air quality. After approximately 5 minutes, the air quality indicator lights up green if the air quality is good or lights up red if the air quality is poor.

Note: The SmartAir Control function is only applicable for purifiers AC406x. For these purifiers, this function automatically adjusts speed settings according to the current air quality.

What does the PM2.5 indicator in my Philips Air Purifier mean?

PM2.5 is a scale for measuring real time air quality. Its values vary from 0 to 500.

The PM2.5 indication is connected to your Philips Purifier’s air quality ring light to inform you in real time about the quality of the ambient air.

The different colors indicate the following:

    1. Blue: good.

    2. Blue-violet: fair

    3. Red-Purple: unhealthy

    4. Red: very unhealthy
