The pursuit for your next smartphone takes you through hoops and loops of specifications and complex terms. If you are looking at a phone with the best possible hardware, you can expect it to priced well over Rs. 40,000 these days, but what if you wanted most of those specs, but at half that price? That pursuit might end with the Vivo Y53s, a phone that on paper, has everything makes up a good, powerful phone. We navigate through the specifications and tell you just how good this phone might suit your needs.

The first item on the list of requirements of any new smartphone is its screen. The Vivo Y53s runs a large 6.58-inch display, perfect for browsing newsfeeds, for playing the latest online games, for multi-tasking, photo editing, chatting and more. It is no shoddy, HD screen either. It runs a resolution of 1080 x 2408 which is termed FHD+ by modern standards. It is detailed and crisp, so it can render a ton of text, images at high resolution, while fitting in a lot more than a HD screen would. It has been tuned to be complaint with the P3 colour gamut, so it is accurate in colour rendition too. The display also helps filter out blue light, so you do not feel the strain after hours of using the phone every day like you would on older phones.

The performance needed to run the latest apps and games is already present. The Vivo Y53s runs a Helio G80 octa-core processor, along with 8GB of RAM. This amount of RAM is standard for this device and is seen on phones in a typically premium variant. That is enough memory to run the latest apps, and ones in the future as apps get updates with more features and demand more performance. Vivo even says the phone comes with something called Extended RAM. It should offer an additional 3 GB of RAM, if the need arises. It makes use of the onboard storage, using it as additional RAM.

Storage space is another key component, and the Vivo Y53s comes with a 128GB ROM, but also provision for storage expansion using a microSD card. Cards up to 1TB are supported, which means you could have as much storage on your phone as the average, modern laptop. Imagine the number of apps, games, music, photos, movies and TV shows that would store?

There are three cameras mounted at the rear. The biggest highlight is the 64MP primary sensor one. It is what you are likely to use for all the photographs. There are two other cameras to help with more specific tasks. The 2MP bokeh camera is there to help portraits come alive, with its smooth depth of field. The Super Macro camera is for help you get you close to objects. Vivo claims you can get as close as 4cm with the help of this camera. The front-facing camera can be used for clicking selfies and for video calling. It is powered by a 16MP sensor.

The cameras are complemented by software that can do things like reducing noise in low-light photos. The Super Night Camera feature, Vivo claims, can shoot great photos in low-light scenarios, using details captured from many frames. The Super Night Selfie mode uses the screen along with some smart AI to reduce noise and lighten up your face. All these software features are not limited to photos though. The Ultra Stable Video feature lets you shoot smooth, stabilized videos using the rear cameras’ electronic image stabilization. This is great if you like vlogging but do not want shaky results.

The cameras are used for other things. There are two ways you can unlock the phone, one by using the front-facing camera’s Face Wake feature or the faster, easy-to-access, fingerprint scanner that is mounted on the side. Vivo claims the device can be unlocked in a mere 0.24 seconds once the screen is turned on. The Face Wake can be set up to be triggered the moment you lift the phone.

Any modern smartphone with a ton of features and performance needs a large enough battery to get it through the day. The Vivo Y53s ships with a 5,000mAh battery that can give you 14.3 hours of battery life if you were streaming HD content online, or about 7 hours of gaming time. That’s a lot, but it is not all. The phone also comes with a 18W Fast Charge feature that lets you charge the phone from 0 to 70 per cent in more no more than 66 minutes. Remember, this is a large 5,000 mAh battery! That battery can also serve as a charger for other devices thanks to the reverse charging feature. With the right cables, you could charge other phones, or earphones, or other accessories.

Vivo hasn’t forgotten about design and colours. There are two interesting looks to choose from, depending on your style. The Fantastic Rainbow is more colourful, as the name suggests has all kinds of colours going on. The more modest option is the Deep Sea Blue one. While it too has a gradient colour scheme, it may be more tasteful for a working professional or an older audience. The phone is large but it’s slim, and lightweight, weighing no more than 190g.

The Vivo Y53s runs Funtouch OS, a software layer on top of Android. There are user interface enhancements made to streamline tasks. There is also an iManager app that cleans up the cache and helps free up space. There is also a Multi-Turbo 5.0 feature that prioritizes games, giving them the maximum performance so you can focus on your game. The Ultra Game Mode is another such feature meant to let you game competitively without any disturbances. Standard hardware features included with the device are the Type-C port, Bluetooth 5.0, the barrage of sensors typically seen on phones at this price, and even FM.

It should be apparent the Vivo Y53s brings a lot more than you might have expected, for its price.
